To do it, you must have Windows Vista or higher and a program you can run as administrator.
How-to: 1) Go to a level with fog, like Bob-Omb Battlefield. 2) Pause the emulator and then minimize it. 3) Open a program that makes the UAC prompt appear. 4) After you've clicked "Yes" on the "Do you want to allow this program to make changes to your computer?" thing, go back to the emulator and unpause/resume. 5) Spooky darkness.7 YearsBlittleMcNilsen2015-04-12 | http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2mf7wd_7-years_fun*APRIL FOOLS* Super Mario 64: Attack of The Monkeyshine Army - Episode 18 - The Grand Finale!BlittleMcNilsen2015-04-01 | And now, the final showdown...WHATTHEFUUUUUUUUBlittleMcNilsen2015-03-29 | No logic. Old description: I don't know what this is called. All I know is that it plays after beating the final boss of the game, and that I can't find a name or a download for it ANYWHERE. I could only get it from a YouTube video that happened to use it, namely this one: youtube.com/watch?v=AOYpyfQfoXMHow to Fix Missing Textures in Project 64BlittleMcNilsen2015-03-21 | In the Project 64 emulator, there is a common problem people have where certain textures are missing from surfaces. For example, in Super Mario 64, shadows, the castle doormat, and the sun carpet inside the castle are all missing unless viewed at specific angles or distances. The problem is the fault of crappy Intel graphics chips that don't render these surfaces properly. This video shows a way to fix the problem without having to buy a new graphics card.
Quick note: If you're using the Rice Video Plugin with Project 64, you do not need to use this method. Instead, in Project 64 you can go to "Configure Graphics Plugin", go to the DirectX tab, and find the drop-down menu that says "Depth Buffer Type". Change that from "16-bit (def)" to "32-bit (signed)" and click OK, and you're good to go. However, if you're using the default Jabo's plugin, the 3D Analyze method is the only known solution.

This is demonstrated here: youtube.com/watch?v=D570jB_1sHs
However, what if you did the same thing to the SNES version? I decided to find out. To do this, I inserted the flagpole into the NES 8-4, and then used the utility SMB2SMC (http://smascentral.webege.com/wiki/File:Smb2smc.zip) to import the SMB1 NES hacked level into Super Mario Collection (Japanese version of Mario All-Stars). Then I played the game, grabbed the flag, and saw what happened.
The results...uh, they're interesting alright. No really, what IS this level?
-TECHNICAL DETAILS BELOW, TURN AWAY IF YOU DON'T LIKE THOSE- Note, however, that SMB2SMC seems to change more than just the bytes that get swapped around from adding the flagpole, so if that change were the ONLY change done to the ROM, the results may have been different...or maybe not. Also, since this is the Japanese version of All-Stars (SMB2SMC won't work with any other version for some reason), the results could be different if this were attempted on the USA or Europe versions.Super Mario Bros. 3: World 1-1; Whats behind the end level darkness?BlittleMcNilsen2014-06-03 | In SMB3, World 1-1, there is one of those gray blocks you can crouch on top of and fall through to get behind the scenery. In levels such as 1-3, these will reveal a secret if you use it to go behind the blackness where the end level goal is located. However, there is a time limit on how long you can stay behind the scenery before appearing back in front of it, and due to the distance between the end of the level and the gray block, it is impossible to outrun this timer, effectively making the block useless.
However, what if you hacked the game to place the gray block closer to the end of the level so that you can get there in time? I was always curious about that, so I decided to find out. The result? Well, it's not that interesting, but if you've wondered the same thing, then watch the video.

It shows the World 1 island, and then a giant blank landscape on the side that may or may not be filled in later on, depending on if I actually keep working on this hack or not.
The other hack I was working on, "Super Mario Bros. - Quest for the Moon Herbs" has sort of been abandoned, but the hack that this overworld is in is kind of a replacement or "reboot". It has a similar story, except with only one "Moon Herb" instead of 8. I decided to do it this way since it's been so long since I edited the ROM for QFTMH that I've forgotten a lot of what I did to it (patches, etc.), and I wasn't sure I wanted to continue making it the way it was (I wanted to try a completely new thing), so I just started over with a blank slate. As for that unnamed hack about Luigi going out to find Mario's stool softener...well, I never made much of that one, so I may start that over sometime in the no-so-soon future, or just dump it entirely...heh, "dump". Heh, story is about Mario being constipated, hur hur punny.

So basically all I did was take an Snes9x video file, put it in Sony Vegas, and render it as a 1080p MP4 file. This upload is a test to see how it turned out.
Some boring technical details below, for OCD geeks who actually care: I didn't render it in 1920x1080, however, but instead in 1236x1080, because of things to do with the aspect ratio. YouTube widescreen is 16:9, but I have a 16:10 monitor, so if I view 16:9 content in full screen, there's black borders at the top and bottom of the screen. So, if I were to render a non-widescreen video like this in widescreen, and view it in full screen, in addition to the borders at the sides I would get borders on the top and bottom as well, which is completely pointless since this isn't 16:9 footage. Thus, I reduced the vertical pixel resolution to match the height of the footage so that there are no top and bottom borders when viewing it on a 16:10 monitor.Super Mario 64: Attack of The Monkeyshine Army - Episode 11 - Among the BlueBlittleMcNilsen2013-04-23 | Well, it certainly has been quite a while (again), hasn't it? In this episode, we find out what happens when characters rebel against their author.
Also, the colors may look a bit off (as compared to the other videos in this series). This is because I had to sacrifice a couple of my Sony Vegas project settings in this one due to a mishap where I accidentally made the entire video using different settings than usual, and couldn't change all of them back to the normal ones without messing up...certain scenes with lots of effects. See, I got a new computer recently, and installed the new Sony Vegas 12 on it (I was using Vegas 9 before), and the default settings were different than what I had them set to on Vegas 9, and I accidentally made this whole video using those different settings. I wasn't sure if those different settings would work properly with YouTube, so I tried switching them all back, but there were 2 that I couldn't change without screwing up those flashy scenes, so I just didn't bother. But anyways...
