The world of Zootopia is getting bigger… and wilder! 🦊🐰 In this video, we break down the latest updates surrounding the possible development of Zootopia 3, including the early planning reportedly happening behind the scenes at Disney Animation. While Disney has not officially announced the third film yet, multiple hints from creators and the massive success of Zootopia 2 have made it clear that the story of this incredible city is far from over.
Directors Byron Howard and Jared Bush — the creative team behind the original Zootopia (2016) and Zootopia 2 — have already talked about exploring new ideas for the franchise. In late 2025, Jared Bush confirmed that he had begun sketching story concepts for the future of the series. The filmmakers have also hinted that the next chapter could expand the world of Zootopia beyond mammals, introducing new species and brand-new districts of the city.
One of the biggest clues comes from the post-credits scene in Zootopia 2, which teases birds officially entering the world of Zootopia. A hidden Easter egg even suggests that “Part 3 is for real and birds are too,” hinting that the next film could introduce an entirely new sky district filled with flying species and new adventures.
Of course, fans can expect the return of the beloved duo Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde, continuing their hilarious buddy-cop partnership as they face bigger mysteries across an even larger Zootopia. Other iconic characters like Gazelle and Chief Bogo are also expected to return if the third film moves forward.
Although there is no official release date yet, industry projections suggest the film could arrive around 2030 or 2031, which would be a much shorter wait compared to the nearly decade-long gap between the first two films.
With a bigger world, new species joining the city, and the return of our favorite characters, Zootopia 3 could become the biggest adventure in the franchise yet.
