![Wish | Booth to Screen - This Is The Thanks I Get?!
Hereâs your first listen to This Is The Thanks I Get?! performed by Chris Pine as King Magnifico! đ See Disneys #Wish only in theaters November 22.
Following in the footsteps of classic villain songs like âPoor Unfortunate Soulsâ (1989âs âLittle Mermaidâ), âBe Preparedâ (1994âs âThe Lion Kingâ) and âMother Knows Bestâ (2010âs âTangledâ), Walt Disney Animation Studios and Disney Music Group today released âThis Is The Thanks I Get?!,â performed by Chris Pine as the nefarious King Magnifico, from Disneyâs upcoming musical comedy, âWish.â The song is the second of five songs being revealed as part of a weekly âWish Wednesdaysâ music campaign ahead of the filmâs launch only in U.S. theaters on November 22.
GrammyÂź-nominated singer/songwriter Julia Michaels and GrammyÂź-winning producer/songwriter/musician Benjamin Rice penned seven original songs for the film, including âThis Is The Thanks I Get?!âânow available on SiriusXMâs Disney Hits Channel 302, YouTube, Amazon Music, Spotify, Apple Music and all digital service providers.
In the movie, people come from all around the world to give their wishes to Magnifico, a charming and confident king who promises to grant their deepest desiresâsomeday. But the King isnât entirely altruistic; he alone decides whose wish will be granted, and he relishes the control. âHeâs charismatic; heâs handsomeâand he knows itâbut I think he truly believes their wishes are safest in his hands,â said screenwriter/executive producer Jennifer Lee, whoâs chief creative officer for Walt Disney Animation Studios. âSo when Asha exposes the flaw in his philosophy, he feels underappreciated and threatened.â
Cue âThis Is The Thanks I Get?!â âWe just had a blast with it,â said director Chris Buck. âThe visuals are terrificâheâs the king and he feels like nobody respects him. Itâs been a while since weâve had a good villain song, so Julia and Ben just went for it.â
Director Fawn Veerasunthorn said âThis Is The Thanks I Get?!â is a good example of how a song can help shape the character. âWeâd provide a rough version of the script [to Julia and Ben] and theyâd go away for a while and come back with a song. Their songs inspired us. For âThis Is The Thanks I Get?!â we knew we wanted Magnifico to be charming and, of course, evil. Heâs also funny! In the song, he cracks jokesâheâs narcissistic. But itâs all tongue-in-cheek and heâs still somehow completely likable, which is great for a villain.â Wish | Booth to Screen - This Is The Thanks I Get?!](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/syqFr82eM3Q/mqdefault.jpg)
