The Dell XPS 13 (2022) Teardown: Is This The 13 Laptop Weve Been Waiting For? iFixit 2022-08-09 | Way back in 2020 we fell in love with the Dell XPS 15. The XPS 15 was a sleek and incredibly modular machine that scored a 9 out of 10 on our repairability scale. But not all of us wanted a 15-inch machine. Some preferred the smaller form factor XPS 13. Now, the 13” inch model didn’t have all of the repair benefits the 15 inch model had, but with its easily removable battery and removable SSD it did have enough going for it to earn our seal of approval. This new version of the XPS is slightly thinner and lacks many of the ports we loved in the previous version, and most of the time when we see manufacturers making the move to fewer ports and thinner devices, it means the device is going to be way less repairable. Washington State Right to Repair Hearing 2022! Is This the Year it Happens? iFixit 2022-01-19 | This year’s fight for your right to repair your own stuff is on, with bills in at least 25 states and public hearings about right to repair in Illinois and Washington State last week.Right to repair activists are optimistic about 2022. And there was good reason for optimism in last week’s hearing in Washington State about House Bill 1810. What was most exciting about this hearing was actually who wasn’t there: specifically, Microsoft. Microsoft’s headquarters are in Washington State, and every time a right to repair bill has been introduced there before, Microsoft’s lobbyists have been out in full force. This time, though, Microsoft is now neutral today, and for us that’s a really big win!If you’re in Washington State and want to help out, now is the time! Calling or writing your legislators is a great way to make your voice heard. At washington.repair.org, there’s a form for you to email your repair story to your legislators, and a calling system that will connect you directly. In the US, every state with repair legislation in consideration has its own repair.org domain: illinois.repair.org, california.repair.org, https://nebraska.repair.org.In the European Union, check out repair.eu.
