Five new electric shuttle buses are in service! These are the first of an entirely new fleet of electric buses Zion National Park is receiving thanks, in large part, to a $33 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation.
The park's current shuttle buses began service in 2000, stretching a 10-year expected life span to 23 years! With visitation continuing to grow, Zion is making other improvements that will sustain the system’s success into the future.
The shuttle bus system's success is in no small part thanks to the perspective and resources provided by partners like Zion Forever, the National Park Foundation, US Department of Transportation, the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT), Utah Clean Cities, the Town of Springdale, and our neighbors in Washington, Kane, and Iron Counties.
These are the first of an entirely new fleet of battery-electric buses that will replace the current propane-powered vehicles. Delivery of more battery electric buses is scheduled to continue in the months ahead.
