On the profound privilege of using acupuncture on 'man's best friend.'

Ziggy

You struggle
then
you lie on
your right side
in the rear
of
his hatchback.
I hold your ankle
You look at me knowingly
I believe.
Somewhere
I see signs of approval.
I insert the needles
One - two – three.
I feel you flinch.
But only for a moment.
It passes.
You look at me knowingly
I believe.
Later that day
through the window
I see you
walk past my home
freely.
Light of step.
With your owner
smiling.
