Is Turkey one of the best places in the world to invest in property right now?
I flew to Istanbul to find out for myself.
There’s a lot of talk about Turkish property investment, citizenship by investment and the potential tax advantages of moving to Turkey. Rather than just listening to the hype, I wanted to get on the ground, speak to the experts and actually look at the numbers.
In this video, I meet the team at Property Turkey and spend the day viewing investment properties across Istanbul – from fully managed apartments and Airbnb opportunities to new-build developments and properties suitable for long-term rentals.
As always, I’m looking at three things: will the property grow in value, will it produce cash flow, and can I buy it at the right price?
Some of the properties impressed me. Others definitely didn’t.
I also look at the realities of investing in Turkey as a foreign investor, including rental yields, short-term letting restrictions, finance, property valuations, management, citizenship requirements and the importance of carrying out proper due diligence before investing overseas.
By the end of the day, I went from simply exploring the Istanbul property market to putting forward offers on two properties.
