Exactly 5 years ago Breath of the Wild got announced at E3 2016. Exactly 2 years ago its sequel got teased at E3 2019. In a bid to request the Goddess Hylia to appear this coming Tuesday Ive paid tribute to the Zelda priests over in Kyoto by making this alternative Breath of the Wild main theme, set to the backdrop of that original reveal trailer.
As always Ive made use of live instrumentation, combined with virtual orchestra. Im using a similar modern, jazzy piano style ranging from floaty impressionism to crunch, dissonant rhythm. Youll notice similar use of the erhu, a single-stringed Chinese violin which is featured extensively in Breath of the Wild.
Besides those obvious nods (and a few less obvious ones) theres plenty of my own style shining through =) .

After months of practice Ive finally gotten a few nyckelharpa skills! Thats the funky violin that I play ;) . Its the official national instrument of Sweden, but has a long history in the entirety of Europe, going back to medieval times.
Its similar to a hurdy gurdy, which can be thought of as a violin with automated bowing and fingering, but the nyckelharpa *is* bowed manually which offers some more expressive capabilities. Mine is a prototype laser-cut nyckelharpa made by Jaap Brand, who also made a similar hurdy gurdy called the Nerdy Gurdy xD . It has 4 main strings and a few extra resonant strings that give the instrument some built-in reverb =) .
I hope to one day graduate to a regular violin, but the nyckelharpa is a great introduction with a distinct character all its own!
