I tried to keep the tutorial as short as I could, but there is just a lot that goes into successfully creating this style, however, if any of you know of any better ways to do this, please feel free to post it in the comments and I will pin it! Once you have all of the shapes made, thats when you can start to experiment with different colours, so you could go for something like what I used in the video, just random colours, or you could use different shades of the same colour, as shown in the thumbnail and start of the video. Alternatively, you could start to experiment with gradients (which does look good, i've tried it) but for this tutorial I wanted to focus on getting the style down. The idea for this originated from when I saw a blog post tutorial showing you how to create a water effect, however, after following all of the steps, the end result didn't look too great and wasn't really what I was looking for, so, using different methods and techniques I have learnt over the years of using photoshop, I branched off about half way through the tutorial and started experimenting by myself to see if I could figure out a way to get the sort of effect I was striving for. In this tutorial I am showing you how I create an acrylic paint effect on my lettering within Adobe Photoshop! This is by no means the ONLY way to do this, I can imagine there are some other techniques to create a more liquid-like paint, but this is the method I personally use. You can probably tell that I am kinda rushing through this whole process in the video to try and constrain it to a reasonable length, however, when you come to using this tutorial, I would recommend you spend a lot more time perfecting each stroke before moving on to the next one. 3D Paint Lettering Tutorial | Cinema 4D Ste Bradbury Design 2017-08-08 | Hey guys! So this is a video I have been wanting to make for some time now, and I have finally figured it all out and found the time to get this recorded. This 3D style of lettering mixed with the right textures can create a hyper-realistic 3D brush stroke, or at least looks as such. It reminds me more of acrylic paints, if you're not sure what they are, just google it and you will see what I mean. As I mention in the tutorial, a lot of this is just trail and improvement, there is a lot of tweaking to get the desired result, but that's the fun of this process, the results are endless. In this tutorial I will show you how to create two different striped 3D shapes within Adobe Illustrator. The methods used in this video can be applied to a variety of different shapes, and the directions of the lines can also be experimented with. There are truly endless results you can achieve with these processes, so I look forward to seeing what you guys can do with this knowledge! One of the shapes we will make is a sphere/globe, and the other is a ring/doughnut shape. These shapes are easy to create in a 2D sense, but creating a 3D version of that within Illustrator isn't so straight forward, so in this tutorial I walk you through the necessary steps to achieve a 3D look. I honestly wasn't expecting my first script font to be very successful, however, I personally believe this was a success. I think the end result came out very nice and the font works great for a variety of purposes!The name 'Monoline Script' is a very literal name, and I chose that because I couldn't find any other fonts out there with this name, so it made sense to call it what it is since nobody else had taken the name. Working within Cinema 4D allows you to use realistic materials, and with all programs, the more experience you have, the better you will be. I myself am still a novice when it comes to C4D, so when it comes to building scenes and selected render settings, I'm not great in all honesty, but I did my best. Of course those of you who are more experienced with C4D will be able to achieve much better results than I have which is awesome! The main point of this video was to show you how to achieve this tube-like look in C4D because upon initially trying to do this, it was much more difficult than I anticipated to get the rounded caps on the letters. I finally managed to figure it out with a little help from some more experienced C4D users who gave me tips and possible solutions to the problem.Again, a huge thank you to everyone for sticking around during my inactivity, I really appreciate your support. So this is a bit of a different tutorial from what I normally post, which is usually just anything based around hand lettering, so I hope you enjoy this video. In this tutorial, I will be showing you how to make a website, with premium option for added perks. The website I am building in this video is a mock-site of a hand lettering artist/designer, so basically a website for someone like myself, and the designers name/alias is "Mellow", because I had some lettering lying around so I figured I'd put it to some use. I would encourage you to first design your website on photoshop or illustrator, whichever you're most comfortable in, and then re-build that design within Wix (if you're a designer)If not, you can simply use one of the templates and build your website from there. By following this tutorial, you will learn how to basically navigate through the Wix website builder and learn how to use some of the more basic features in order to create a simple, but professional looking website. This means whether you're a designer, a business owner, a chef, it doesn't matter, you will be able to follow along and use Wix to create your own website. So this is yet another video to add to the 26 names series. For this one I decided to use one of my favourite brush pen, the Zebra Fude [Medium]. Ive used these pens for about 2 years or so now and I have always loved how they feel and the results you can achieve with them. With them having fairly short nibs, they're very versatile because you can apply just a little bit of pressure and get drastically different results, so of course like all brush pens, it take some getting used to, but once you grasp it, you will love this pen. There are many other similar style pens out there, such as the Pentel Touch, and I believe TomBow have a couple of brush pens with fine nibs too, and that's just the main ones I know. So this I recently posted a tutorial on how you can create shadows and highlights for your lettering work to give it a bit of a 3D sort of effect, so in this tutorial, I will be showing you some different styles of shadowing/cuts you can use to help make your work stand out and give it some depth. Rather than giving it this 3D sort of effect, I am showing you how to properly make create shadows on parts of your lettering work which overlap each other, like the letter 'A' for example. The line which goes through the middle overlaps the rest of the letter, which means there is the potential to add some shadowing and give it a bit of depth. Of course there are plenty of different letters this can be applied to, and those letters will vary depending on the style you've created.The key with this effect is to now over-do it, so don't try and throw this effect on every possible overlap because you will reach a point where it starts to look very over-designed, so keep that in mind, just add a couple in the obvious places and see how that looks, don't get ahead of yourself! Hand Lettering Tutorial for Beginners | No Brush Pen? No Problem! So as some of you may have noticed, over the past month or so I have been posting a lot of lettering work to my Instagram page, and the style which I have been posting is significantly different to the usual stuff that I post. The reason behind this is, I havn't been using a brush pen. Now, Ill be the first to admit that everything hand lettering related with me always revolved around a brush pen, and as soon as someone mentioned hand lettering, the first thing that would come to mind is "BRUSH PEN. However, I recently tried to achieve some different styles (like the style in this video) with a brush pen, and of course found it quite difficult since you cannot do this in one stroke, so I started sketching out the letterforms from scratch using just a biro to create a rough piece which I would later refine in pencil. The results I started to achieve were very pleasing to say the least, so I decided to stick with it for a while and see what I could create once I was more familiar with the process and letterforms. Around month later, and here I am, very happy with how this has turned out.I know it's not just me that jumps straight on a brush pen for any lettering work, so I thought I would share this process with you guys to let you know that you can create any style of lettering you like without a brush pen, it just requires some knowledge of the actual letterform style you're trying to achieve. So, as I mentioned in the video, a good idea would be to create a moodboard, and if you're unfamiliar with a moodboard, simply google it and that should enlighten you. So I havn't really posted many speed art videos recently, I have been more focused on other things such as tutorials, and the 26 names series, but I thought I would throw a speed art video in from time to time, and now is one of those times. I actually wasn't even planning on doing anything with this lettering, I actually drew the whole thing with a brio pen in about 10 minutes and I thought it looked kinda cool, so I decided to vectorise it. I then thought I would record it too since I have been doing quite a lot of lettering in this style recently, and I have yet to post anything on my channel like this, so I thought why the hell not! I was quite happy with the final result to say the least, I genuinely wasn't expecting this to turn out even half decent, so this was a pleasant surprise.Carhartt is currently one of, in not, my favourite clothing brand purely because the clothes the produce both quality and design-wise is exactly what I have been looking for. The quality of the fabrics they use is amazing. Granted, a lot of their stuff isn't exactly cheap, but it is definitely worth the money in my opinion. I recently had a bit of a blow out in my local Carhartt store, spending over £370 on a couple of t-shirts, hoodies and shorts :)Anyway, sorry for rambling on haha, I hope you guys enjoy this video, and don't forget to go check out my spreadshirt page via the link at the top of the description. So in this tutorial I am showing you an easy way to add highlights and shadows to your vectorised lettering work. I have had a few people ask me how I create this effect and of course this process would be fairly difficult to simply explain over a message, so I thought I would make a tutorial on this to help those people and to also give you guys a bit more insight on the processes I regularly use when creating my vectorised lettering. As I said at the very start, adding these highlights and shadows can make a great impact on the overall look of a piece of lettering, it helps bring some depth to your piece without being overly intrusive if done correctly. You of course need to keep in mind the colours you're using, you don't wan't the shadows to be drastically darker than the background and you don't want the highlights to be drastically lighter than the lettering they're sitting on because then they will simply stand out too much and can easily make your lettering look over-designed and messy, so please keep that in mind.I hope this tutorial has cleared this up for you guys and hopefully helps you out in your journey to becoming better at both hand lettering and the vectorising stages. It's always nice to learn something new in the digital process to make your lettering stand out more. So this tutorial is me showing you how to achieve a chalk-like texture on your hand lettering in a couple of easy to follow steps. This, just like the gold foil texture tutorial, was figured out by myself purely by experimenting with different blend modes, gradients etc etc. As I said in the other tutorial, there may be other or better ways to achieve this sort of look, but this is just a way that I found out and I wanted to share this with you guys!If there are any other sort of textures you would like to see, just let me know in the comments below and I will continue to experiment and see if I can achieve anything new to show you guys! I had some random hand lettering which I had scanned in and thrown into photoshop to play around with between projects, just to mess around and experiment really. So this tutorial is something I have been meaning to make for a while now! I know a good few of you have requested I make some sort of template that you can use to practice your letterforms, rather than simply trying to copy what I do on screen, so here it is!I have basically drawn out the basic shape of each letter, vectorised them to make them neater and easier to use, and turned it into a template/guide for you guys to use! I have also included some arrows too, to show you where to start each stroke, an which direction each stroke should go in. There are also some short and simple instructions at the bottom which tell you where thick and thin strokes should be used. The template/guide is quite self explanatory, however, I wanted to make this video to show you guys how to use it in case anyone was unsure, and also to help promote it so more of you guys know that it is available for free!The reason I include the fact that this is free is because I know a lot of lettering artists out there only give these to people who sign up to their online courses or workshops. While I totally understand why they do this, of course to make some money from it, I am fully aware that a lot of you don't have money to sign up to these sorts of courses, and there isn't very much that is freely available to help you improve your hand lettering skills! I know this from personal experience from when I first started, I learnt simply by looking at other peoples work and trying to understand the letterforms. I had no guides or help, it was simply all about doing my research and studying other artists work!While this is very good practice, it is also a long and tedious process, so having some form of guidelines to follow should hopefully help you guys improve your skills at a more steady rate! I would still definitely recommend constantly looking through other artists work as this is hugely beneficial and a very important step towards improving and expanding on your styles and idea!By all means, feel free to sign up to any of these online courses or workshops from other artists out there because there will be much more info about hand lettering and much more in depth tutorials than what I am putting out. Most of these people are pretty established artists and have way more experience than myself, so feel free to search around for some of these if you don't mind spending a little bit of money. So I am going to start posting some shorter tutorials like this on some tips and tricks which I have learnt over the years and have been very useful! When I first started using Illustrator, trying to add a smooth gradient across a full piece of type seemed impossible and it was infuriating after transitioning from Photoshop where it was so easy to do. I can imagine I am not the only one who had this problem, and it was certainly a deterrent for me. Trying to learn how to use a new program is definitely a difficult thing to do, but by learning just some of the most basic tricks will allow you to create almost anything you want. I actually only use a small selection of tools within Illustrator to create everything, so it is just a matter of learning how to use them and what they are capable of!If you have seen me do things in other videos and would like to know how I did it, just drop a comment below! I got this idea from Ian Barnard and asked him if it was okay for me to take this concept and sort of turn it into a 'challenge', for lack of a better word. I wouldn't necessarily call it a challenge, but I wan't you guys to basically recreate this video using your favourite brush pen and write 26 names, 1 name for each letter of the alphabet. Do it all in 1 go, no jump cuts, if you mess up, keep going because that is the point, to show people that although the vast majority of the content we post on social media of our work, this is how it all begins, with the first draft. This style is fairly easy to create and can give you some truly amazing results, so I would definitely recommend giving this a shot. I have been wanting to reinvent my brand for a while now, and one of my current university modules is to create a our own self branding, so this was a great opportunity to rebrand myself and do it as a uni project, so that worked out quite well! I am very happy with how this logo has turned out, however, I will not be using it until I have finished the full branding, so it will probably be implemented in the next month or so. So a lot of you on Instagram and facebook have been asking me how to create monoline lettering, so I decided I would make a tutorial on it for you. Granted, this isn't massively informative in terms of the style of the letterforms because it is essentially just your own handwriting drawn out, but very neat and more experimental with a bullet tip marker. This tutorial focuses more on the addition features you can add, such a shadows in this case. I show you how and where to add shadows to your type both in pencil and in photoshop. A monoline is a line that goes from paint A to B while maintaining a consistent width, however, don't let this stop you from fixing up your letters if they don't look perfectly how you want them, it's okay to deviate slightly from the consistent width. It is very very unlikely that you will ever create a piece of type that is 100% the same width all the way through, it's simply not going to happen, and you won't really notice if it's slightly thicker in some areas since it's such a minor difference. The goal here isn't to make the width of the lines absolutely perfect, it's to help you create beautiful pieces of hand lettering. So this is sort of a part 2 to my first hand lettering tutorial which was a great success! I was struggling to think of what I could do for this tutorial since part 1 sort of covered the main areas that would help you develop your hand lettering skills. However, I looked through the comments, and made a post on my Facebook page and came to the conclusion that a lot of you want to see a full alphabet so you can refer back to it if you forget how to create some of the letters. So, I put this video together where I simply walk you through each lowercase letter, using a brush pen. So I know a lot of you have wanted to see how I actually go about creating a full logotype from start-to-finish, so I thought I would make this tutorial/walk-through showing you the process I take when creating one. Like I said in the video, this is by no means the only way to create a logotype, many other people use completely different methods, but this is just the way I do it. Some of these steps would be different depending on what style of type Im working on, for example, if it was a very neat and more classical style of lettering, I would draw out a rough version, and then go over it using tracing paper to make sure everything is aligned etc since pieces like this tend to be very neat. Anyway, I hope this video helps you out, and I know I speed through the drawing stage at the start, but this video isnt about how to create the type itself. If I made it in real time, this video would be over an hour long, and it was only intended to be between 10-20 minutes.
