SEE ALSO ▶ Fitting an Entire Loft Staircase in a Tight Space: youtu.be/taDr8zy7yd4
RADIANT BARRIERS AND AIR GAPS The method I referenced, in which the radiant barrier is applied directly to the door, does have an effect, as the foil has a low emissivity. In other words, when the foil is in contact with the door, the foil itself heats up through conductivity, but it doesn't emit as much of that heat as the door alone would. However, the effect is significantly lower than that of the foil's reflective property. A gap between the door and the radiant barrier allows the foil to reflect most of that heat back, without itself heating up.
If you live in a cold climate, and you're trying to keep heat in, however, the method above works as intended. The air gap is on the inner side, reflecting heat back into the building.

POWER SUPPLY NOTES Regarding the power supply listed above: ▶ I highly recommend the Mean Well series of power supplies, which I've now used for years without a problem. ▶ One spool of the LEDs listed above draws 2 amps DC, so if you're using a full spool, you want a power supply listed above that. I listed a 3-amp supply above. ▶ For other models, search for Mean Well APV. This series goes up to 3 amps. For higher amperage, or for outdoor use, search for the LPV series. ▶ These are meant to be general recommendations and not expert advice. Good luck!
OTHER NOTES ▶ The bulbs and the dimmer I linked to above do work together, but the bulbs have a limited dimming range. ▶ I used 6 washers, two for each nipple, one on either side of the base. ▶ I used 9 hex nuts, one each on either side of the base, and one as a jam nut to prevent the socket from turning on the nipple. ▶ I used Minwax Dark Walnut for the body of the lamp and Minwax Honey on the socket covers. Note: the stain will not penetrate the bamboo very well, which is why I used a hair dryer on it before wiping off the excess, then sprayed it with a satin lacquer.Neon Mudflap Toilet SignsWesley Treat2019-07-19 | For a new junkyard-themed bar in The Colony, Texas, I create two flashing, neon, mudflap-style signs pointing the inebriated toward relief.

Good luck!
OTHER NOTES ▶ I modified the stock circuit board by swapping out the capacitors and resistors with other values to suit my own needs. ▶ The "dirt" I sprayed on the signs was just watered-down latex paint. ▶ I work with Neon of Dallas to create all the neon glass.CNC Carving a Googie Sign (Hotel Caravana Redux!)Wesley Treat2019-06-28 | I recreated my recent Hotel Caravana neon sign as a scaled-down, backlit "can" sign by stacking individually cut slices to form the cabinet.

CNC DETAILS (UPDATED) This is the updated procedure I follow now, which has changed somewhat since I published this video. Note: Your results may vary. If you have questions, please leave them in the comments. However, please understand I can't provide a lot of troubleshooting or technical support.
I'm carving 5052 aluminum in this video. I've also tried 6061, which tends to carve a little better, but I have yet to eliminate all the burring.
1. Engrave the lettering. I occasionally try a new bit, and the one I currently recommend is listed below. ▶ Triangular 60-degree V-bit: amzn.to/3iJK6J5 ▶ Total Carve Depth: .003" ▶ Depth per Pass: .005" (This is the max. DPP I recommend for this bit, whatever the job.) ▶ Feed Rate: 45 ipm ▶ Plunge Rate: 30 ipm 2. Finish the surface with a light pass of the medium grade flap wheel, then a pass with the very fine grade. Don't press down, but let the wheels do the work. Working it too much can make the engraving too shallow. The following are a little pricey, but have lasted me a very long time. ▶ Abrasive Nylon Flap Wheel, Medium Grade: mcmaster.com/46735A44 ▶ Abrasive Nylon Flap Wheel, Very Fine Grade: mcmaster.com/46735a43 3. Apply the lacquer stick. Note: Although I didn't show it in the video, I also follow it up with a light coat of Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Satin Clear Enamel to protect the lacquer fill. ▶ Lacquer-Stik Black Fill-In Paint Marker: amzn.to/2IHjZCn 4. Carve the holes using the helical end mill listed below. ▶ Kodiak Solid Carbide Helical End Mill for Aluminum: amzn.to/2vZo1xL ▶ Hole Diameter: .145" (for 1/8" rivets) ▶ Total Carve Depth: .045" (on .040" aluminum to ensure cutting through) ▶ Depth per Pass: .01" ▶ Feed Rate: 15 ipm ▶ Plunge Rate: 15 ipm ▶ Add ramp to toolpath: Spiral (Vectric VCarve setting) 5. Cut the nameplate profiles using the same end mill as in step 3. ▶ Total Carve Depth: .045" (on .040" aluminum to ensure cutting through) ▶ Depth per Pass: .01" ▶ Feed Rate: 30 ipm ▶ Plunge Rate: 30 ipm ▶ Add ramp to toolpath: Smooth, Distance .5" (Vectric VCarve setting) 6. Sand the edges.

I've also added a few new upgrades from TBD CNC.
The new aluminum platform not only adds significant rigidity to the robot's frame, but also allows for hassle-free replacement of the sacrificial surface without removing the whole bed.

OTHER NOTES ▶ Why didn't I just have OSH Cut create the holes to the diameter necessary for tapping? With material as thick as 1/4", as the laser burns through, the bottom of the hole ends up a tiny bit larger than the top of the hole. Now, if I didn't need to tap it, it wouldn't really matter. But, with a tapped hole, you need a precise and consistent diameter. So, I had them cut the holes slightly undersized, then I drilled them out as needed. All this I learned from OSH Cut, who helped me determine the best way to get the results I needed. ▶ If you're planning to use the TBD stiffeners with Phil's design (linked below), you'll need to subtract 1/4" from both the left and right sides of the aluminum bed. But, you'll need to double check everything yourself to make sure the design works for you. I make no guarantees for my or Phil's measurements.)

And I was attacked by a hummingbird in the process.

NOTES ▶ I also used a "frosted glass" spray, which didn't appear in the video, on both the red and yellow portions of the sign. ▶ I cut the paint masks on a consumer-grade vinyl cutter called a Craftwell eCraft. I don't recommend it only because they haven't updated the software in forever. ▶ It wasn't covered in the video, but I had to score along the edges of the paint mask before peeling it up to prevent pulling up the paint, since there wasn't much grip between the paint and the acrylic. ▶ The tool I used to fasten the acrylic face in the cabinet is a framer's point gun. (See below for product link.)
