Now THIS fight, it was something!! I first tried it when I discovered the island but had to come back to it later after grinding to level 99, getting all the best gear and enhancing it, optimizing mana orbs and lines, etc. I also took too much time to figure out the correct strategy to use the accessories that boost break damage while sacrificing health damage and vice versa, to have Karja be the breaker and Adol be the attacker. I was main-ing Karja for most of the game so I had not trained/optimized Adol until that point, but with his ATK stat getting close to Karja's after all my grinding and optimizing, it could work now. Vermodr's barrier was still a pain to break (and the sucker pulls it back up several times at that, even one last time when it has 1% HP left and you can't avoid it, what a troll), but thankfully his HP went down fast once the barrier was down (when I could manage to land a hit, that is). I didn't want to but I shamefully had to resort to equipping one of the items that revive you once if you die, and it got used, but I don't regret it because after more than one hour trying to beat it at 2AM, I wanted to finish it. That's how much that boss drove me into a corner. It was quite crazy and I'm impressed at the level of difficulty that they crafted with this, perfect for an extra boss. And it's still fair, even though it's extremely difficult especially in Inferno. The addition of the random lightning bolts all around the map coming in waves (and all the time in the second half of the fight) really added another level of insane difficulty, not only you have to make the right moves based on its attacks, but you also have to avoid or somehow dodge the lightning bolts! Lastly, how you have to pray that the boss doesn't attack you during the last few milliseconds of the reviving of the other character (when the invincibility period is over), is down to luck as always.
That was one hell of an achievement! I'm pretty sure that was the hardest boss of the game. Unless there's more extra bosses after you beat the game. Aegir have mercy.
Also the fight was so intense that it even broke the game and caused some clipping at 2:48!

I'm loving the game so much, such a joy to play a new one from Nihon Falcom (my second favorite studio), it's filled with the tender moments between the crew and the wholesomeness that I adore so much from them. Also the theme of the sea is special for me ever since I played Atelier Totori, and Ys X feels very much like "Atelier Totori but Action-RPG", with the sea exploration on a ship, all those islands, the Alanya-like harbor towns, etc, I'm jubilating.
