Turtle was built for the "9 Hour Beetleweight Challenge"
facebook.com/groups/UnofficialRobotWars/permalink/591995247746911
The objective of the challenge is to show that anyone can have a go at building a combat robot and not require any elaborate equipment or building processes (CAD or CNC). Also you gotta have fun!
Before attempting yourself and/or requesting build guides for a beetleweight, I'd suggest building an Antweight (150 grams) combat robot first. They are far easier and cheaper to build and will give you a great working knowledge of combat robot building and electronics.
Rules:
1) The robot must be battle ready in 9 hours start to finish
2) Spinners of any kind are banned this is for both safety and so it can be a simple arena for people to make themselves
3) Basic powertools only (jigsaw, powerdrill, pillar drill etc) no mills or lathes of any kind are allowed
4) All forms of cnc or cad are banned you want precision get a ruler
5) The bot must conform to FRA rules and regulations
6) Robots should be built to 1.36kg but if you do need to go up to 1.5kg (the uk limit) that's acceptable
7) You are not allowed to premeasure, make or design any part of your bot before the 9 hour clock starts and during that time no parts may be purchased
My build was finished in 6.5 hours and weighed in at 1.24kg at the end. He's a parts list:
- Battery 850mAh hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-nano-tech-850mah-3s-45-90c-lipo-pack.html
- 4 Gearmotors http://botbitz.com/product/bot-bitz-1000rpm-gearmotor
- 2 30A Botbitz ESC's http://botbitz.com/product/botbitz-30ampv2-electronic-speed-controller
- V-Tail Mixer hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-v-tail-mixer-ultra-small.html
- 2nd hand hobby touring car wheels
- 4mm D shaft to 12mm hex adapters https://littlebirdelectronics.com.au/products/12mm-hex-wheel-adapter-for-4mm-shaft-2-pack
- Transmitter and receiver of your choice. 2 channels only required.

It's gonna be a flipper with mecanum wheels, name still to be chosen.
The chassis is made of 3D printed ABS and pine dowel while prototyping, it will be aluminium eventually.
Please check out our Facebook group for more details about our Australian bot fighting group or to come and check us out next month:

Parts in the prototype so far:
- Mecanum wheel set
http://www.robotmarketplace.com/products/0-ft-mecanum-set-v2.html
- 4 x 1000RPM mini gear motors
aliexpress.com/wholesale?catId=0&initiative_id=SB_20161231164952&SearchText=gear+motor+1000rpm+12v+3mm
- 4 x 10A Botbitz ESC's
http://botbitz.com/product/botbitz-10amp-electronic-speed-controller
- 850mAh LiPo Battery
hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-nano-tech-850mah-3s-25-40c-lipo-pack.html
- Spectrum DX6i transmitter
- Arduino Nano with some mixing code to drive the ESC.
Wiring:
This Beetleweight is wired similar to my other bots. The four motors are soldered to an ESC and each ESC is terminated to the Arduino which is running a code I wrote for mixing the wheels. The receiver signal connections go to the Arduino digital inputs and the postive and negative connection go to the 5V and GND Arduino terminals. The battery connects to both the ESC's and the VIN/GND on the Arduino.
