When people hear the word “radioactive,” they usually imagine nuclear power plants or hazardous waste.
But actually in reality, some of the most common radioactive materials are completely natural! Granite, for example, contains trace amounts of uranium and thorium that have been there since the rock formed MILLIONS of years ago.
Once you start measuring radiation, you begin to realize just how much of the invisible world has been hiding in plain sight. Yes… this isn’t scary levels of radiation. But nobody said interesting content has to be scary. This is still ionizing radiation being detected.
