Well it finally happened.

The Demonetization wave that has been sweeping the animation niche of youtube hit my channel,

That’s right, my 20 year old channel, which has been monetized for 14 years, with 2.5 million subscribers was randomly demonetized last week. My livelihood, casually discarded.

And, like all the other youtubers affect by this, it was because of YOU GUESSED IT “harmful content involving minors”.

Now, this is particularly funny, because my youtube channel features my own original characters, AND THEY AREN’T MINORS. The ages for all my characters are SPECIFICALLY 18 and OLDER, for this very reason. I have literally posted character biography videos from 10 years ago stating this.

I tried appealing and linking them to these videos, but they rejected my appeal and I honestly doubt that a single living human was involved in the process at all.

So, that’s where we are right now. I’m currently taking a break from creating and uploading content on youtube until this is resolved, because quite frankly I don’t want to give this platform anything without getting compensated for it. Old school creators like me made youtube into what it is with foundational viral videos like Chubby Mermaid and Porkchop ’n Flatscreen, and the platform never seemed to appreciate me very much from monetization fights to hiding my uploads from subscribers to search engine shenanigans. In recent years, when you typed “Chubby Mermaid” in youtube search, my video titled CHUBBY MERMAID with 88 million views simply DID NOT SHOW UP in the results, even though it had the most views and it was clearly what people were searching for.

If you want to help, there are 3 things you can do.

1. Since youtube was my main source of income and I don’t really have a Patreon set up at the moment, if you want to support me…download my music on iTunes or Amazon.com! If every one of my 2.5 million subscribers downloaded just one 99 cent song, I’d be a millionaire, I could ditch youtube, and then use the money to invest in a studio and make a Porkchop ’n Flatscreen series for Netflix or Adult Swim or something.

2. Spread the word about this! Let youtube know I need help. On twitter, retweet my post about the issue, and maybe the Youtube Twitter account can help me. People’s voices can help. Lot of animators are dealing with this crap, and we deserve better!

3. Stay subscribed and stay tuned for updates on my channel while this all gets settled. It may take a while, but hopefully, it all gets resolved eventually. Until then, also follow me on my tiktok, instagram, facebook, and discords pages! I also post stuff there!

To my fans, thanks for all the support for 20 years. Whenever youtube itself made me want to quit across all the years, you all made me feel like my art was important to you.
