What does it actually look like when a monarch is deposed? I had this question thinking about whether contemporary royal families should relinquish their special status. Incidentally to whether that's a good idea, what would actually happen to their possessions? What is taken, and what do they get to keep?
Italy's (former) royal family could provide an interesting example. This video examines what happened to the House of Savoy's possessions after the 1946 referendum.
