It took me 15 years to get my first job in the games industry.
I discovered 3D in my final year of high school, which led me to study game development at the Academy of Interactive Entertainment in Melbourne. While there, I found my passion for character modelling and digital sculpting, but I graduated without the confidence or portfolio I felt was needed to work in games.
I stepped away and spent several years in retail management, focusing on stability rather than passion. After a major life change, I moved to Canada and slowly returned to sculpting at first just for fun.
In 2024, I decided to fully commit and enrolled at the Think Tank Training Centre to refine my skills and focus on creating characters for games. After graduating, I spent time improving my work and applied selectively. About 10 months later, a rare junior role opened up and that became my first job in the games industry.
This video is about taking the long road, stepping away without giving up, and continuing even when progress feels slow.
