If you've ever wanted a direct say in how federal farm programs are carried out in your community, now is your chance. Nominations are now open for the 2026 Farm Service Agency County Committee Elections — and Georgia FSA State Executive Director Duncan Johnson Jr. wants producers to know just how much these local committees matter.
As Johnson puts it, county committees are where the plow hits the dirt. These locally elected representatives set pay rates, influence how programs are administered in their area, and serve as the first line of defense when disaster strikes — whether it's a hurricane, a drought, or a flood. When Georgia farmers need assistance, it's county committee members who oversee the programs and make sure that help actually reaches the people who need it.
Beyond disaster response, county committees also help ensure that local FSA offices are running the way they should and that farmers are receiving the treatment, assistance, and programs they have earned and deserve.
Nomination forms are due no later than August 3rd. For more information, contact your local FSA office or visit farmers.gov.
