In this video, Toby Mathis, Esq. explains how Social Security is really taxed, how the new senior deduction works, and the retirement tax strategies that could help you legally keep more of your money.

You may have heard that Social Security is no longer taxed. That’s not exactly true.

For people aged 65 and older, there are now three different deductions that may be available—including a new senior deduction worth up to $6,000 per qualifying taxpayer.

But deductions are only part of the story.

The amount of your Social Security that becomes taxable is determined using something called provisional income. IRA distributions, investment income, Roth conversions, and even tax-exempt interest can potentially affect this calculation.
