After years of a dry spell on the charts, Jackie Wilson scored a huge hit in the summer of 1967 with "(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher And Higher." Producer Carl Davis wanted a more Motown sound to Jackie's recordings thus he had several of Motown's in-house musicians, The Funk Brothers - bassist James Jamerson, drummer Richard "Pistol" Allen, guitarist Robert White, and keyboardist Johnny Griffith drive to Chicago to cut several tracks for Jackie, including this song. Also on this recording as well as several other songs were two of Motown's in-house session singers The Andantes; Marlene Barrow and Jackie Hicks along with another Motown session singer, Pat Lewis. Jackie Wilson would cut his vocals in New York. "Since You Showed Me How To Be Happy" is considered the sequel since it is written, recorded, and performed in the same style as "(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher And Higher."
