"Declare an open war with your mind. The mind might pull you and push you into the same old habits. Understand that it is only a trick of the greatest trickster, the mind, to divert you from the path. "
~ Amma
When someone posted this online, it was remarkable how many "people/egos" rose up against the idea of "doing war" with the mind and ego. No no no, "people (ego's) no-likey" this idea, especially now in this new age of watered-down pop psychology. People prefer to soften the language and make it so it's not so hard or difficult or urgent. But in fact, it is urgent. It is a war, and your soul is losing every second you are not engaged. It does not need to be unpleasant though, in fact it is a joyful war against your ignorance and illusion. But first, we need to address its urgency.
Because every second of every day you're operating through this limited ego/self - which is constantly coddling you and keeping you asleep. In fact, one of the most insidious ways it does this is by spinning these stories that "it's not urgent", "you have plenty of time", and there's no need to change much at all", because " You already understand all of this anyway" - even when none of that is true.
This is why all of the Indian epics take place on battlefields, for example. And great beings like Amma, are always using this type of intense language, to get us out of the ego and its laziness.

I explain this in great detail in this video. I discuss these things astrologically, psychologically, and through the agency of sankhya/Indian philosophy.
Hint: astrologically this is the interplay between the 3rd and 9th houses.
It is so deep and so pervasive that we don't even see it happening. It's like the fish in water who says “what water”
I have gone through enormous changes in this area of life. I can say unequivocally that the most important thing I have ever done is invest my time and money and attention in teachers and mentors to help me bridge the gap between what I was able to figure out and understand on my own, through my ego (3rd house) - and the things that would have taken me decades to learn, (through trial and error and making my own mistakes), assuming I could have ever figured them out on my own at all.
In those cases, investing in the wisdom and experience of those who had walked the path before me (9th house - teachers and gurus) has been the best, and smartest thing I have ever done.
I would bet if you think about it, you would report the same thing.
Investing in your education, especially in something related to life itself, is the best investment you can ever make. It's not something you consume, then it winds up in the commode. It's not even just an experience you can have, like a beautiful vacation, and then you carry the memories around.
