Today at Sheraton Park Farms, a simple message in our YouTube comment section completely shifted our perspective on why we do what we do.
We start the day out in the green bean patch, where Saundra and Chuck are working side-by-side to harvest our second heavy round of green beans for the season. After moving the harvest into the shop, we get to work cleaning the vines, sorting out leaves and bugs, and prepping the crop.
During our last bean harvest with Mom, Granny, and Aunt Millie, so many of you left beautiful, nostalgic comments reminiscing about the "good old days"—memories of sitting on a porch with family, snapping beans, and listening to stories. While we were cleaning today's harvest, Saundra dropped some incredible advice that hit home: Don't just look back at those memories with longing. Recreate them right now. Plant a row, invite your neighbors or family over to snap them, and send them home with the harvest.
The next day, we pivot to a massive property maintenance project. Chuck heads out to the equipment line to perform routine maintenance on the excavator and attach our heavy mower head. From there, we hit the fields to systematically clean up thick weeds and overgrown brush lines around the farm infrastructure.
We wrap up the day back on the porch, where Chuck reiterates Saundra’s challenge to all of us. True self-sufficiency isn't about isolating yourself on a piece of land; it's about using the land to bring people together.
