In the remote highlands of Vietnam, where the land refuses to be tamed and every season tests survival, Triệu Thị Hoa sets out to build more than just a house: she builds a way of life. With no reliance on modern infrastructure, she reads the terrain like a blueprint, carving into slopes, following water as it naturally flows, and placing each structure exactly where it needs to be. What begins as raw earth quickly evolves into something far more complex: a living system made of timber frames, hand-laid bricks, flowing water, and carefully organized spaces that all work together. Every cut of wood, every poured surface, every pathway is part of a bigger logic, one where nothing is wasted, and everything has a purpose.
But the real brilliance lies in how it all comes together. As you will see, this is intended to become a fully functioning ecosystem. The outdoor kitchen breathes with fire and airflow, the garden feeds directly into daily life, animals are integrated without disrupting balance, and water moves quietly through the entire layout, supporting everything.
At the center of it all is the “sân”, which represents not just a yard, but a constantly shifting stage where work, life, and survival unfold. Here, architecture disappears into routine, and routine becomes the design itself.
