Home to lush aspen trees, colorful wildflowers and thriving pine trees, Kendrick Peak was previously ravaged by fire more than once. The Pumpkin Fire in 2000 and the Boundary Fire in 2017, both lightning caused, destroyed thousands of acres along the 10,418 foot high peak in Flagstaff, Arizona.
Now, it’s one of the most beautiful hiking destinations in the entire state. Trail Mix’d met with wildland firefighter Victor Morfin, who battled the Pumpkin Fire and now teaches at Northern Arizona University, to learn about how fire can be managed as a tool of renewal.
