Andor did something really clever. Not only did the opening scene set the tone and give us a darker new look into star wars but it also drew some interesting parallels with the movie Rogue One. Specifically the scene in which Cassian shoots the Preox Morlana guard… which mirrors the way in which Cassian shoots the rebel informant in Rogue One to prevent the mission from being compromised after realizing the informant was in no shape to escape…
But its a whole lot more than that. Even though both scenes are quite similar the main difference is the lead up to Cassian shooting both people. In Rogue One we barely see any hesitation whatsoever. But in the Andor show, he hesitates for a moment, representing a younger less desensitized man to the violence he is about to commit. Just a neat little detail that tells the audience that both men are not yet the same person.
