Do you actually need the FGC to enjoy fighting games?
GimR made a post about how fighting game culture has changed, the negativity people see online, and how newer players sometimes leave before they ever become part of the community.
I agree with some of that, but I think there’s another side to it.
Today, you can buy a fighting game, play ranked, learn the game, fight strong players online, and enjoy yourself without ever going to a local, major, Discord server, or becoming deeply involved in the FGC.
That doesn’t mean tournaments don’t matter.
If you’re claiming you’re the best, better than established players, or making competitive claims, then you need to prove those claims.
But if somebody just wants to come home, turn on Tekken, Street Fighter, Marvel Tōkon, or whatever fighting game they enjoy and play?
Why do we need to turn them into something else?
You don’t need the FGC to play fighting games.
