I was like, "how do I make this scene feel goofy and genuinely dangerous?"
Vocals = Goofy
Flutes = Funny
Drums = Dramatic Action
Strings = Danger
I really love the idea of writing a musical score that's totally unexpected. That really worked out for this film, which ended up being both quirky and dramatic. This scene in particular features so many funny and dangerous characters, I was like, "how do I make this scene sound goofy, dangerous, and funny?"
My answer came with this "pan flute" sound I've always loved on old casio keyboards and synthesizers. Mix that with big drums and underlying strings and I feel like we did the thing.
I also recorded my voice going, "woh woh woh woh woh" to double some goofy saxophones.
