NetEase just pulled funding from Gang of Dragon, the first brand new IP from Toshihiro Nagoshi since leaving Sega.

For many fans, this was one of the most anticipated upcoming games. Nagoshi built his reputation creating the legendary Yakuza series, a franchise known for its incredible characters, gritty storytelling, and over-the-top action. Seeing what he could do with a completely new IP had a lot of people excited.

But now, it looks like NetEase has decided to stop funding the project entirely. This raises some serious questions about how large corporations treat creative studios and developers. When companies chase trends or shift priorities behind the scenes, projects that players are genuinely excited about can disappear overnight.
