Jesus, the spotless Lamb of God, hung upon the cross in terrible agony.
His back was torn by the scourge. Those hands that had healed the sick, and His feet that walked tirelessly to save the lost, were pierced with cruel nails. A crown of thorns wounded His brow, and every breath came with pain.
Yet His greatest suffering was not the nails, but the crushing weight of this world’s sin, and the anguish of being rejected by the very people He came to save.
Betrayed by a disciple, denied by another, mocked, beaten, and condemned as a criminal, the Son of God endured the hatred of humanity. The Creator was treated with malice and cruelty by His own creation.
And in the midst of that agony, Jesus spoke words that reveal the depth of His love: _“Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.”_ Even while they were taking His life, His heart pleaded for their forgiveness.
What love we cannot fathom, that God would die for a race that did not deserve His mercy, for a race that mocked Him, derailed Him, and spat in His face.
As we reflect, we may condemn those who crucified Him, but *do we, by our choices today, take His sacrifice lightly? Do we despise His love through the sins and habits that still bind us?*
When we truly see what it cost our Creator to save us, one question remains: *how can we remain the same?*

*You Did All This For Me*
In the quiet of the upper room,
You knelt where servants kneel
Those hands that shaped the stars above
Now touched our dust, our heels
Those hands that served now met the ground,
When the night grew still
On trembling knees, beneath the trees,
You whispered, “Not My will”
You did all this for me, and it breaks me
You gave Your life for me, how could it be?
You saw me there when I was down
You wrapped me close with love around
You chose the cross alone, so I could be found
They struck His back with ruthless hands,
Till stripes were etched in pain
They crowned His head with twisted thorns,
Yet silent He remained
With lies and spit they mocked His name,
Their hatred loud and wild
He bore the cross, the weight of shame,
Each step despised, reviled
You did all this for me, and it breaks me
You gave Your life for me, how could it be?
You saw me there when I was down
You wrapped me close with love around
You chose the cross alone, so I could be found
Those nail-pierced hands were bound to wood,
So mine are free to choose
Those feet were pinned upon the stake,
So mine can run to You
Your head that bowed in prayer for me,
Now bore my guilt and shame
All my sins tore You apart,
You died of a broken heart
I see now what love has done
How could I turn away?
You gave Your life so I could live
Help me walk the narrow way
May I spend time with You each day
To reflect on what You gave away
You did all this for me,
What should my life now be?
Lord, what should my life now be?
