My clients learn how to troubleshoot their curl problems, starting with properly describing them and understanding controllable vs. uncontrollable variables.

If you say "my curls just don't look curly enough" or "it feels off but I do not know why," that is the problem. You cannot troubleshoot what you cannot name.
There are three things worth learning to distinguish because they look similar but mean different things and have different fixes.
1. Curl tightness is how coiled the curl actually is. A stretched-out curl looks wavy. A bouncy curl looks tighter. Same hair, different states.
2. Clump size is how many hairs are taking the same pattern and forming together. Stringiness for one person is a clump for another because clump width varies by hair type. Clump size is something you can influence with how you style.
3. Definition is the opposite of frizz. Not the fuzzy brushed-out look, but the clear formation of the curl shape. High definition is what your hair looks like before you break the cast. Normal definition is after. Both are valid but knowing which one you are looking at tells you something different about what your hair needs.
Once you have the vocabulary, you can actually diagnose what is happening instead of guessing.
