You can see fall arriving in Jackson Hole.
Tonight at Snake River Overlook, the first aspens are turning gold beneath the Tetons. The Snake River winds through the timber below, following the same landscape Ansel Adams photographed here more than 80 years ago.
September never arrives all at once. First there’s a little gold in the aspens, cooler evenings, elk bugling in the distance, and a different quality to the light. Then, almost before you realize it, the whole valley has changed.
This was Grand Teton National Park tonight. September 6.
The beginning of my favorite season in Jackson Hole.
