What if the entire reason the church exists is to go after the one who's far from God?
That's the case Jonathan Pokluda (JP) — pastor of Harris Creek Baptist Church and host of the Becoming Something podcast — makes from Matthew 16, Matthew 28, and Luke 15. Jesus built His church on mission. There's real opposition to that mission, and it's not who you'd expect. And if we're not on mission, Jesus says, we've become the opposition (Matthew 12:30).
JP walks through the lost sheep, the lost coin, and the two brothers in Luke 15, and tells his own story of drifting from a missionary heart into a religious one. It's a clear, gospel-centered case for why every Christian is a missionary, or needs one.
Every sin gets paid for — on the cross, or apart from God forever. Jesus already paid on the cross so you don't have to (Ephesians 2:8-9, 1 John 5:13). That's the whole of the gospel, and it's still the whole of our mission.
