You Are Old Father William - A poem by Lewis Carroll.
About the poem - This poem is part of Carroll's Alice in the wonderland, where Alice recites the poem after the caterpillar. Like most other poems in the Alice's adventure this poem too is a parody of Robert Southey's didactic poem "The Old Man's Comforts and How He Gained Them" which was originally published in 1799. Most of his parodied poems are the only ones that are remembered and the original ones forgotten. Martin Gardner calls it "one of the undisputed masterpieces of nonsense verse".
About the poet- Charles Lutwidge Dodgson better known by the pseudonym Lewis Carroll,was an English author, mathematician, logician, Anglican deacon and photographer. His most famous writings are Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and its sequel Through the Looking-Glass, as well as the poems "The Hunting of the Snark" and "Jabberwocky", all these are examples of the genre of literary nonsense. He is noted for his facility at word play, logic, and fantasy.
