2nd run with save corruption + 6-8 warp.
So yesterday Arnethegreat figured out that a corrupt file with 6-4,6-5, or 6-6 unlocked lets you wrong warp to another level when you press left while on the left most level (We knew the saves could be corrupted but nobody had spent time with it on emu, I'd gotten a corrupt save on console but wasn't able to do anything with it). Turns out when you take the boss key into 3-1, the game starts writing "random" data to SRAM. Usually this just results in all save files being completely wiped after the keyhole closes, then the game resaves the file you're currently playing on after the score screen like normal (although certain addresses having certain values can still result in all files being wiped after reset). However, certain camera movement combined with ending the stage right away can result in later w6 stages having a score value of 128 (0 points) or higher. Upon reset, any stage this happened to will be unlocked. From here, I wrong warp from 6-6 to 6-3 (this is true for 6-4 and 6-5 as well, all 3 warp to the same stage). There are 4 coins after the spinning log, grabbing the rightmost coin and dying lets me wrong warp again, this time to 6-8 (grabbing, say, the left-most coin will warp you somewhere else). From here everything is as intended :)
Bowser was pretty bad but sub 27 should happen soon!
Possible improvements (besides movement):
Unlock 6-8 from 3-1 right away - This will probably happen soon, using file 1/2/3 give different results, just need to find a consistent setup like my 6-6 one
Earlier null egg - don't think this will happen anytime soon if ever
Finding another stage like 3-1 to corrupt save earlier - possible, save corruption depends on the stage having a certain type of layer 3 (per raidenthequick, this stuff is beyond me)
Faster null egg setup - Now we don't need 3 eggs anymore, can probably save a couple seconds with a faster setup with less eggs
