Everyone goes to Yosemite Valley, but barely anyone goes here. This is Yosemite's hidden alpine paradise.
This was an unforgettable Yosemite backpacking adventure to Vogelsang Lake and Vogelsang Peak, one of the most underrated destinations in Yosemite National Park. Tucked away in Yosemite's spectacular High Country, Vogelsang offers stunning alpine lakes, incredible mountain scenery, and some of the best summit views in the entire park—without the crowds found in Yosemite Valley.
We decided to backpack to Vogelsang Lake, set up camp in one of the most beautiful locations in the Sierra Nevada, and then leave the trail behind to climb Vogelsang Peak. What started as a straightforward summit attempt quickly turned into an off-trail adventure through slushy snow, route-finding challenges, and an exciting ridge scramble high above Yosemite's backcountry.
