MelonadeMWell, here's something quite a bit different from what I usually do. Hopefully you enjoy this one - I definitely channeled into some more shmup-y sounding stuff, especially considering what Konami made around the time this SCC chip was relevant for them.
If you're not familiar, the Konami SCC is just a 5 channel wavetable synth, kinda like Namco arcades/163 or PC-Engine. There's essentially two revisions: K051649, that was widely used in arcades and a lot of MSX games that share the wave memory between voice 4 and 5, and K052539, having extra memory, having unique wave memory for all 5 voices, but mostly relegated to remakes of their existing MSX games (Nemesis, Yie ar Kung Fu, etc), with the few notable exceptions being Snatcher and SD Snatcher.
It's probably worth noting the first SCC's - the K005289, were much lesser in capabilites. 2 voices as opposed to 5, and the wavetable bitdepth is 4 (as opposed to 8 on the SCC). This variant ended up being used exclusively in a few Konami arcade boards, most famously the bubble system (that housed Gradius and Twinbee).
Now here I'm using a typical SCC and PSG setup, and the PSG setup is basically just an AY-3-8910 (a 3 voice square wave chip that can also generate noise).
This isn't running on real hardware or emulated hardware of any kind. I have to give out a bunch of thanks to MovieMovies1 for hooking me up with a lot of the sounds you're hearing here (for I've really just sequenced them in my DAW), please go check his music out: soundcloud.com/moviemovies1
The video itself I've rendered with corrscope by nyanpasu64, it's actually a rather nice tool..

I had this laying around, decided to finish it, and then realized I won't be able to use it anywhere, so it's now out here, free to use! I don't even know what kind of context would fit this song, honestly. You can figure it out, though!
So, a little backstory behind this one: As a kid, I came up with a couple of silly robots that I named "seasontroids", a sort of play on Mega Man V's stardroids, except themed after the four seasonal periods that a majority of the world experiences. One of the robots I decided to come up with was "Cherry Blossom Woman", which is obviously not a very... snappy name, to put it a way.
Fast forward to about fall, 2021 - I had an urge to create a song with this instrument set, but wasn't sure on what, so I decided to revisit this conceptual robot and, firstly, create a much catchier theme, but also a much catchier name as well.
I'm really happy with how this one came out! I hope you also enjoy it.

Fast-forward to the beginning of *2022* and that's when I felt I was confident enough to tackle the mix. Came out beautifully, I think?
Anyway the cover idea came about when I relistened to this song and it struck me that its writing style was similar to one of my friends' (HaruMKT in this case), so we both made a remix of the same song going in entirely different directions. Heavily inspired by Yousuke Yasui's works (check their music out, if you haven't already! It's great stuff), as well as late 80s-90s KONAMI arcade music.

Had this one in the works, as usual, for a good while as just a small draft, and then I decided on a whim to finish it. Probably contains one of my best choruses in a Mega Man song to date honestly, and that's probably saying a lot, too.
Anyway, it probably sounds it, but I had a few water themed robots in mind while composing this, especially Flood Man from Time Tangent, hell you can probably hear the musical influences to an extent, too.

I made this for a fangame, but it was deemed to not fit, so with nowhere else to really use it I'm making it free-to-use instead. I definitely went for some Mega Man 5, 6 and probably 7 vibes here but decidedly more Kirby, strangely. This was fun to make, even if it's just relegated to free-use content.

Chris from Chips n' Cellos asked me if I could cover this song, and basically that happened, so here it is, in a more-or-less modern Mega Man style instrumentation.
I have to put spaghetti in the description for the algorithms to like the video so here it goes: Mega Man Style is a form of instrumentation on the 8-bit NES console, for which I adapted Fur Elise to run on this thing, for the Compose Man 3 project. Fur Elise is an original song composed by Beethoven.
This is likely to be my last DELTARUNE Chapter 2 remix, and this is one I'm really, REALLY proud of honestly. Spamton is an enigma of a character, one of the most interesting characters in Chapter 2 (honestly, all of DELTARUNE so far) as a whole, him being the SUPERBOSS is very fitting. It's also kinda creepy, all the puppet analogies and mannerisms, it's clear there's way more to him than meets the eye, and it'll be fun to discover his character even further.
Not to mention, this song is a damn bop. Very hard to hesitate making my own spin on it (complete with my own voice, for once, in music - heavily processed though, as you might expect)
#DELTARUNE #SPAMTON #BIGSHOTPandora Palace (Queens Castle) - Deltarune Chapter 2 (Arcade 16-BIT Remix)MelonadeM2021-09-23 | A few days ago I held a poll on Twitter on which song to remix next - Pandora Palace ended up winning. Also a while ago, while I was working on A CYBER'S WORLD? Melon Mix (which, the original is also from Deltarune Chapter 2), I thought about creating a remix that's more Yasui-inspired.
This is essentially that, but much less Yasui and more just general 90s arcade YM2151 FM synthesis (made in Deflemask, if you were wondering). Well, I say general, but it's very skewed towards Konami style, with some of the sounds I used.
Aside from all that jazz above, Queen's legit THE BEST PART OF CHAPTER 2. Bar none. I don't care that she's very like one-sided or whatever, she is so funny. Get The Banana Kris. Post your favourite queen quotes in the comments, if you want.
Hey y'all! I hope you're enjoying Deltarune Chapter 2... I certainly did. I won't bore you with my thoughts (yet), however, if you haven't played it, pause the video, go get Deltarune here (it's free, although it only has the first two chapters), then come back. You won't regret it, I promise. store.steampowered.com/app/1671210/DELTARUNE
...Okay, I'll say one thing: I have more remixes planned out. Also more things in general planned out. Look forward to them, I think you'll enjoy 'em. For now, though, enjoy this, uh, trance-ish take on A Cyber's World? (also I totally forgot the question mark in the video, oh well)
Special thanks to HyperCole64 for letting me borrow the image - I forgot to screenshot or record footage when I played through, but that's fine, I'm working on fixing that now (I recorded a 2 hour or so session with Chapter 1, for no reason other than for fun). It's very decidedly not Mega Man style, but that's okay - a lot of this game is very much decidedly not a traditional Mega Man game, that's why it's a MaGMML/Make a Good Mega Man Level game.

#magmml #megaman #chiptuneThe Missing Element [MIDI]MelonadeM2021-07-08 | I wrote this MIDI not too long ago, decided it's worth uploading here too, in a video form. It's kind of drum&bass, and I wrote it start to finish in about one and a half hours, which... well, it's very repetitive so it's not that impressive. You can watch the production process here: youtu.be/9eVrdI9Y7wE
Worth noting, if you're gonna listen to the MIDI you'll hear some note choking - it's just a bit too extreme for MSGS to handle, it seems.
I've heard this while watching Borderline Forever, the new feature-length film Scott the Woz aka Scott Wozniak (and friends) put out (www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhbVUf3yyB0 go watch it btw) and I REALLY LOVED this like the instant I heard it.
I took a few liberties from the original, mainly because with how Scott tends to sing his parts, it would not really translate well to the SNES - I filled out the more empty parts with other stuff, and I modified the end to loop back to the beginning (as if it were a boss theme or something - fitting given the context, IMO).
Made with Chipsynth SFC, limited to 8 voices & under 64k (for samples and echo).

#chiptune #snes #16bitMega Man Style - Stage 5 (Original)MelonadeM2021-04-29 | woo another one
Okay but this one was in the works for a while now, really. It's... very much unusual, to the point where you could say "This isn't Mega Man style". You have a 3/4 song, one that doesn't really rely too much on motifs or some grounding element, probably one that's more fit in a shop or a cutscene if I'm being entirely honest.
Also, yes, each new free to use video will have different coloured thumbnails. Woo, I suppose.

Somewhat spinned off from my MD cover of it I did a while ago (find it on my SC) but I wanted to spin it into its own more original take, so yeah here we are. Gradius III for DOS, baybee (or X68000, as that computer did have MIDI built-in and games like the Gradius II port can absolutely make use of the MT-32 to deliver a very good version of that game's soundtrack, honestly it's worth a listen).
I also wanted an excuse to get more familiar with the MT-32 itself, so yeah.
I put this one ages ago on my alt soundcloud account, decided I should upload it here cause it'd make sense.
Definitely not the best cover but at the time I saw some of the music the actual C64 port of Contra had and I was like "why", I decided to see how exactly could they do better (and maybe this isn't ingame-viable but hey it was enough to prompt me to do something).
Anyway hot take: I don't think the SID sounds good. Yeah I know you can do actually great stuff with it but the difficulty you have working with it isn't worth it. I'd rather have 6 of those in a synthesizer and use it like I'd use any other analog synthesizers, it's almost designed for that too, so that must've been the original intention.
#rickroll #rickastley #msxGradius III - Dead End Cell (SNES 16-bit Cover)MelonadeM2021-02-07 | I posted this on Twitter ages ago, but I never really posted it anywhere else. Time to fix that and bring this to you in a much better quality.
You might be wondering what this is about if you're not familiar with the original games, there was a Gradius III on the SNES, wasn't there?
Well, yes, there was, but it was different to its arcade counterpart. The stage where this song would play in the arcade version was moved to the very last level in the SNES version, and uses a completely different song to boot.
This arrangement is more of a "what if", more than anything. It sticks with only the original Gradius III samples used in the game, and also with the 6 channel and lack of the echo/reverb most SNES games used (which in turn allowed for more sound samples to be stored).
I made this with C700, however because of that I couldn't quite get 100% in the style ballpark. It's close enough so that I don't care, but yeah..

#arturia #vcollection #metroidThe Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past - Dark Golden Land (YM2612 16-bit Remix)MelonadeM2021-01-23 | Well here's something a bit different again. I'm planning to backport songs and remixes from my SoundCloud here, starting with this.
I don't think I've done remixes of Zelda very frequently either, and I'm not sure if it's even known but I am indeed a fan of the series. Right now my favourite being A Link to the Past.
Rather than try to get as close to the original as possible, I tried to make use of the Genesis'/Megadrive's unique sound setup to this remix's advantage.
I just heavily based the instruments off of something that Hitoshi Sakamoto would do, as seen in his work for Gauntlet IV (which you should absolutely check out right now). I think, if we were in an alternate universe where Nintendo failed to be as popular as it is right now, this would be the kind of sound they would have on the Genesis. But, well we're not in that universe, so... a remix is good enough.
This was made with Chipsynth MD (which is a plugin I really love btw). I also have SFC, so I'll likely do something with it too.

This is a self-cover I made after having the idea to make it fit within something like Gradius 2 FC - apparently, doing Konami FC style stuff is really not that hard.
Consider this a bonus upload of sorts, really. I'm still experimenting with ways to visualize stuff, as seen here with both the tracker view and an oscilloscope view. I don't know why it's as blurry here as it is, but I guess it doesn't matter too much either considering the main point of focus is the music.
#chiptune #2a03 #8bitDeparture (2a03 NES Original)MelonadeM2021-01-08 | Happy (belated) New Year.
This would be the first song I've done in 2021 - a little chiptune ditty. You might've already heard it on Twitter but I figured I'd also upload it on a site with actually half-decent video playback too. I've done the pixel art earlier today - if you want just that, then I urge you to head over to this post twitter.com/_melonadem/status/1347290663507927040
I was kinda inspired by Lagrange Point's Departure & Arrival for this one (even down to the title arguably) and also by CrossCode's Basin Keep (please play CrossCode! It's one of the best games I've played in recent memory, honestly).
#departure #famitracker #nes #2a03 #chiptuneMega Man Style - Stage 4 (Original)MelonadeM2020-12-27 | It has really become yearly tradition at this point, hasn't it? Closing out the year with just a free-to-use Mega Man Style original song.
2020's been a wild ride, for the worse in most cases but for the better in some. Let's just hope next year's better, alright? Regardless of what 2021 will be, this will be my last upload of 2020 (as you can probably expect honestly).
Anyway, there's some interesting things to note - the new video background/thumbnail. I was tired of using something I made in 2016, so I just whipped up something new. Hopefully, you'll like it. Does it really matter though? The second thing, is that like with Stage 3, this is using a more MM4-6 style approach when it comes to instruments, however I tried to incorporate some more foreign concepts (like more modern usage of tri toms, and more "unusual" instruments so to speak).
I wrote these tunes for a Ludum Dare 43 game EnchaeC, LumpyTouch and I were working on. It never managed to come out, however - health complications occured, and we all thought it'd be for the best if we don't push ourselves at the cost of our programmer's health.
As such, I've put out this soundtrack up on its own. While the music here is the spotlight, I still urge you to give some of your love towards Enchae and Lumpy - they're great people.
I really do hope you enjoy, even though it's about a year late in this case, I still feel like this is some of my best work ever. I'm proud of this album, man, and it wouldn't've been possible without y'all supporting me on my now-defunct Patreon. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
This video was made with FL Studio's ZGameEditor visualizer, and it's pretty cool in all honesty. See the effect authors below for credits to them.

#megaman #fangame #sage2020Journey to Silius - Stage 3 (PC-Engine CD Style Remix)MelonadeM2020-07-25 | I recently got a Roland U-220! It's really a cool module, contains some of Capcom's most revered sounds for one, especially in some of the drums and the guitars. It really is a proto-Sound Canvas of sorts, containing many of the sounds that would later appear on the SC-55 and be popularized that way.
Obviously the U-220 is put to work quite heavily here (drums, synth brass lead, guitars, mallets, choir pad and the bass), but I combined a lot of other stuff I own too - namely a lot of SC-8850 (guitars, more drums, pads, leads, mallets and strings), a bit of M1 (just the brass stabs), Wavestation (just the lead in the outro) and Quadrasynth (the piano part in the outro).
The reason I decided to remix this song in particular was because of conversations happening in the chiptune scene - It has recently been discovered that Sunsoft's bass samples have been incorrectly encoded in DPCM, and that reversing the bits gets you the actual samples that they used. A Roland slap bass was very clearly heard in Gimmick and a few other titles, after that process. The PC-Engine CD moniker comes from a few friends saying this has extreme PC-E CD vibes, which I agree with.
#Sunsoft #Remix #80sSuper C - Jungle Juncture (8-bit VRC6 Cover)MelonadeM2020-07-11 | More of a mix between both the NES and Arcade versions of this same song. There's not too much to say here either - other than the sampled cuica and orchestra hits from the Arcade's sample ROM.

Seeing this, I decided to record what I had and post it on twitter, to see if anyone would be interested in seeing it finished. Well, here we are. I really love this song too. It's one of my few favourites from Deltarune as a whole.
I hope you enjoy it. If you want to support me, consider buying my music, as this video had its monetization disabled.
#deltarune #16bit #chiptuneOperation C - Area 2 (VRC6 8-bit remix)MelonadeM2020-05-27 | This is specifically based on the version remixed for Contra Rebirth's Area 3, courtesy of Manabu Namiki.
Not really much else to say here. It's a more typical VRC6 and 2a03 mix, however I tried to make the bass more gritty by overloading the sawtooth accumulator (which can easily be done by using volumes greater than 16 on the saw, you can go up to 64).
