Final Fantasy XIII and the rest of its trilogy are my favourite FF games. I can finally say it!
The OST of these games is one of my greatest musical inspirations, and I’m absolutely delighted to be able to present this collaboration to you today.
Nicole and I came up with the idea for this cover two years ago, but we’d had to put it on hold until now. We hope to create more FF13 covers in the future, as it’s a world that brings us very close together.
Incidentally, it’s been a long time since Nicole last appeared on my channel, so a warm welcome back to her. As always, her arrangement work is masterful and her playing is incredibly emotive. By recording two separate harp tracks, the score becomes more versatile and allows for a freer interpretation. The result is truly magnificent!
For my part, I recently bought a Pearl flute, which I’d been dreaming of owning since I was a little girl. So I wanted to try it out on this song, and the sound is breathtaking. It’s the first time in my life I’ve played a semi-professional flute (the one on my previous covers was a broken Thomann beginner’s flute) and what a treat!
In my flute solo, I sought to convey raw but complex emotions, alongside an accompaniment to the voice that is both mysterious and warm, as if to bring to life the paradoxes that lie at the core of the game.
As for the vocals, ‘Yeul’s Theme’ is a more challenging song than you might think.
Here again, I wanted to sing the melody in my own way, letting my deepest and lost emotions come through. I’ve added lots of harmonies, like hands supporting a fragile little bird struggling to take flight. Melancholy of a broken heart.
I hope you’ll be able to feel all of this when you listen to this collaboration.
