Dudley of Yesterzine | Yesterzine Episode 7 : Amiga Power 32 - "Experienced Rider of Things" @Yesterzine | Uploaded July 2019 | Updated October 2024, 16 hours ago.
Yesterzine is the (literal) magazine show where we play old games to see if they're as good (or as bad) as they appeared to be at the time, all set around a specific issue of a magazine from back in the day.
This episode : Amiga Power 32 from December 1993
Cannon Fodder, brilliant sure, but controversial with its slogan "War has never been so much fun". Does it have a heart underneath its edgy exterior or do you agree with the Royal British Legion and the Daily Star that it should be removed from the time line?
Four guys from Sweden spent the early 90s making the Amiga display flashy rotating cubes to a dance soundtrack. But those guys turned out to be incredibly important to the Amiga and then to gaming in general? How did some anonymous Swedes go from their bedrooms to writing the engine powering one of the biggest games on the planet? We'll tell you.
And 18 months after the rather excellent Red Zone (Yesterzine Episode 1) Psygnosis release another motorbike game.... and Amiga Power thought it the worst thing in the issue by a country mile. What went wrong?

Bonus fact for scrolling :
The Pinball Fantasies engine was reused by Spidersoft later, most notably with Pinball Mania but these are not generally well receieved.
Campbell left Future for Sensible, hence doing the levels for CF2 but he returned to the mag late on in its life. Now running the political blog Wings Over Scotland he's... well let's just say "Old Soldiers? I wish them all dead." isn't even close to the top 10 things he's done in terms of getting the attention of the media.
