Is it a good idea? Well...
Technically it's possible to deflect fired bullets with a blade, if the angle is just right. If not, it may tear a chunk out of the edge or punch a hole straight through. Or you might get shot by two halves instead of a single bullet.
Of course video game / movie /anime tropes are just supposed to be cool, not to be practical or realistic. If you actually had the speed and coordination to catch a bullet travelling at 1000-1500 fps (airsoft BBs go at around 350 fps by the way), why not simply... dodge?
