This video explores the war’s key events occurring in 1779— the siege and battle of Fort Sackville at Vincennes (in present-day Indiana), the Franco-Spanish Treaty of Aranjuez, the siege and battle for Gibraltar off Spain’s southern coast, the Penobscot Expedition (in present-day Maine), the Continental Army and John Paul Jones’ capture of the HMS Serapis off the coast of England, Brigadier General Anthony Wayne’s capture of British fortifications at Stony Point (New York), the raid on Paulus Hook (New Jersey) by “Light-Horse” Harry Lee, the Franco-American attempt to recapture Savannah (Georgia), and the Continental Army’s winter encampment at Morristown (New Jersey). Featured video topics were suggested by our national network of Master Teachers Seminar alumni.
The Year in Revolution Series was produced with classroom use in mind. Beginning with 1775 and ending with 1783, students and lifelong learners alike will learn about each year of the Revolution through a comprehensive overview video and five “who, what, where, when, and how” videos. The animated series draws heavily from the American Revolution Institute of the Society of the Cincinnati’s library and museum collections.
Funding for this video was made possible by a grant from the George S. Rich Family Foundation. The creative team for this series was assembled by the American Revolution Institute and the talented educational production leads at Makematic Limited/ClickView.
