Yayoi Kusama has died. The internationally recognized avant garde artist passed away from an unspecified cause on August 14th at a hospital in Tokyo according to her studio's website, which says she was still painting until her final days. Kusama was born in Matsumoto City in 1929 and from a very young age claimed to experience hallucinations. The visions served as the inspiration for her colorful, polka-dot-themed works.
