I still wish there would be a continuation of the Hyouka Anime, but regarding the current circumstances of Kyoto Animation, it's seems impossible now...
The relationship development between Oreki and Chitanda was simply amazing and the final episode - Oreki's "confession" while the Cherry Blossom petals are falling - is simply magical and it's still one of my favorite Anime moments of all time. I wish there would be more Anime series with these subtle, and yet powerful moments like Hyouka.

Sorry for not uploading for a very long time.
I was busy with a lot of private stuff and my Animenz Live 2018 tour also kept me busy.
But all is well now, because...

I finally caught up some Anime series in the past few months. I havent watched so many anime episodes in such a short time since YEARS and damn, it feels so good to be truly back into anime.
(I have almost watched zero anime series in both 2017 and 2018, but now I have caught up most of it)
Speaking of missing out:
Why didnt you guys tell me about Boku no Hero Academia before? Its freaking awesome and the animation is absolutely amazing!
I started with this track My Hero Academia, because its one of my favorite OSTs of BnHA and I love the bass rhythms in this track.
Since its been a while to make an arrangement, I didnt use my old techniques like arpeggios and three hand technique that much for this but will slowly start to expand my arrangement technique so that I become more familiar with arranging again.
Anyway, it feels really good to be back, and THIS time, it will last for the next few months!
Well then, now excuse me while I rewatch episode 49 of BnHA for the 100th time again because the UNITED STATES OF SMASH scene is seriously one of the most awesome moments in Anime Ive ever seen.

Have you seen the anime movie Sakasama no Patema (or Patema Inverted) yet?
Its the newest full-length movie from Yasuhiro Yoshiura, the mastermind behind Eve no Jikan and Pale Cocoon.
I just watched this movie yesterday and I really really loved it.
I was amazed by the incredible visuals and I have always dreamt of a setting like this: what happens, if the gravity for some people is reversed?
The ending song Patema Inverse - composed by one of my favorite anime composers, Michiru Oshima, has been stuck in my head for hours now, so I spontaneously decided to make a piano sheet for the ending song.
Heres the original song performed by Estelle Michaeu. The language is Esperanto btw, a constructed language. (actually a very beautiful sounding language...)

Here is my piano arrangement of Fubuki, the ending song of Kantai Collection! I decided to do this song instead of the opening song Miiro, because I instantly fell in love with the chorus melody of Fubuki. But in honestly, I might arrange Miiro as well in the future. Both ED and OP songs are fantastic.
This time, I also borrowed a few marasy8 techniques for this arrangement.
Especially the left hand pattern in the second chorus are inspired by his piano arrangements. This specific left hand pattern is probably the most cost-effective way to play the bassline of a fast J-pop music piece.
I also had the rare opportunity to use the Steinway D in our conservatory to record this video. Thats why the audio quality is even better than usual, especially those satisfying bass notes. All my other videos are recorded on a Steinway B piano usually.
The Kongou figure on the piano was borrowed from a good friend of mine. I wanted to buy this figure as well but it was sold out everywhere ;_;

So here it is, the final opening song for the entire Attack on Titan Anime series: “The Rumbling” from SiM! This piece gave me unique challenges on the piano because how does one arrange a metalcore music on a single piano? Sometimes, I feel like even 88 keys are not even enough.
But before I continue, I want to ask you something: Doesn’t the melody in 0:08 sound really similar to Grieg’s In the Hall of the Mountain King theme? And not only that, the string melodies in 0:14 also reminds me of the main melody in Dvorak’s “From the new world” symphony (the 4th movement). Really a crazy coincidence, since Eren himself wants to create a “new world” in a way…
Some key points of this arrangement:
① 0:41 IM TEARLESS, IM FEARLESS
These aggressive growling vocals found in metal music are almost impossible to replicate on the piano but I still needed these voices in order to fully replicate the original song. I think the best approach is to just create a fitting melody out of the growling vocals while keeping the rhythm. I “translated” the growling vocals into a middle voice in 0:41 for example.
② 2:04 Beethoven joins “the Rumbling”
This is something I rarely do in my arrangements: I reharmonized the entire bridge part of the original song and only kept the main melody intact. The reason is because no matter how hard I try, I couldn’t fully replicate the sheer intensity of the hardcore metal in the bridge part with all the guitar riffs and screaming. That’s why I had the idea to create an alternative chord progression in order to make the bridge part more suitable for being played on the piano. I also quoted a little bit Beethoven’s “Appassionata” Sonata No.23 in the left hand in 2:04, because I really like these wavy movements and they sound almost “apocalyptic” to me (plus, they are in the same F minor key)
③ 2:44 “If I lose it all, slip and fall”
I absolutely love the quiet melody before the final chorus in the original song but I wish the quiet moment of introspection could have lingered a little bit longer in the music. That’s why I added an additional musical buildup in 2:59 because nothing is more satisfying than playing an insane crescendo and then finally hammer the final chorus in 3:11.
All in all, this song is probably the “heaviest” arrangement I’ve done in a while and I cannot wait to see the rest of Attack on Titan Final Season! This is the Yui Ballad version of the ending Hello Alone from Yahari ore no seishun, so far it has only been featured in episode 5 yet. (and its the second track of the Hello Alone single)
Initially planned as a improvisation for my weekly request hour on my facebook page, I liked the song so much, I decided to make a sheet for the piece. I really like the soft voice of Yui Yuigahama (Nao Touyama) in the original piece.
Since one of my microphone tripods are broken, I could only record it digitally.

500.000 subscribers, thank you everyone! To celebrate this special milestone, I decided to make a piano arrangement of one of my favorite songs: Sayonara Memories!
Its the 12th track from Supercells second studio Album, Today is a beautiful day and one of my favorite J-pop songs of all time. I am a big admirer of Ryo - supercells composer - because his ability to create timeless melodies is almost unmatched by any other J-pop artists. Yanagi Nagis heavenly voice also contributes a lot to bring out the best of Ryos compositions.
This piano arrangement is one of the most advanced arrangement I ever made, both technically demanding and musically interesting. It features many polyphonic passages, virtuosic right hand movements and an exciting original finale at the end - a culmination of all my arrangements in the past 5 years on YouTube. Its the very definition of Animenz style and one of my best arrangement Ive ever done so far.
Therefore, I want to thank everybody who were supporting me in the past 5 years, because without them, Animenz wouldnt be the same today.

Rising Hope is definitely one of the most HYPED songs from LiSA and I have been really looking forward to finally arranging this song for this weeks upload. The second season of Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei is also airing in this fall season 2020 and I cant wait to hear more onii-sama! memes from everyones favorite character Miyuki-chan.
Interestingly, Rising Hope has a fairly unusual song structure because the second chorus is not immediately played after the second verse, but instead its played at the very end, followed by the third chorus. Perhaps this is the reason why the chorus feels more exciting than usual, because it feels more unique.
Whenever I am encountering speaking parts in Anime songs, I am at loss at what to do first, because I am relying heavily on my ear to identify the exact melody of the original song. But how should I translate it to the piano if the melody itself doesnt have a clear pitch? The first (00:41) and second verse (01:51) of Rising Hope have a very intense call and response speaking part featuring the voice of LiSA and an unidentified crowd, greatly raising the atmosphere. I tried many things on the piano, and what worked the best for me was simply representing the rhythmic energy of the speaking parts on the piano to maintain the exciting atmosphere.
Another interesting feature of Rising Hope is the distinct piano voice in the background that is present in many key moments, including the famous piano introduction part. I used the three hand technique to mirror the piano voice in many key moments such as the pre-chorus part in 01:02 and in 03:09.
I was also experimenting with a few jazzy elements in the bridge part in 02:27, as well in the outro in 04:00. To be honest, I still dont understand how Jazz scales truly works and I have to conduct many trial-and-error experiments on the piano, until I can find the best right hand pattern. But my golden rule is: if it sounds good, its good.

Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso (your lie in April) is definitely one of the best anime series of this fall anime season 2014, and of course, I am not missing out the awesome OP song as well!
Initially I wanted to make a very sophisticated and virtuosic piano fantasy about a theme of a classical music anime - transcription, because it fits quite well with the classical music topic of the anime.
I attempted to integrate the Schumann piano concerto in A-major with Hikaru Nara (and changing the time signature from 4/4 to 3/4), but I gave up the idea halfway, since it didnt sound very good.
Thats why I started from the scratch again and made a slower, ballad-version instead. I took the main motif from the chorus and created many original passages - mosty noticeable in the beginning part and the build-up transitions before the chorus.
This piano version of Hikaru Nara is also more melancholic than the original upbeat Hikaru Nara song by Goose House, because of the slow beginning and slow ending.
I think, you could regard this as a summary of my transcription activity of this year. The first piano medley with sheets, (Nagi no asukara), the first piano cover with classical ending (owari no sekai kara), the first live concert in three major asian cities (animenz live!) .... I had many firsts this year and I gained a lot of valuable experiences.
It was truly a fantastic year for me.
