Leafy Celtic Knot Timelapse | Relaxing Watercolour Process, No Talking! Lou Davis 2025-07-11 | If you want to paint along, the knot in this video is a variation on one in this video: youtu.be/zeo_kjVy718?si=bV_UZ5Rqdo18x01L though it's a three by three knot rather than three by four.This was a bit of an experiment - I added a loose decorative band of leaves on the paler band of the knot I initially painted. When that was done, I'd lost some of the contrast and definition in the overall design, so kept adding details until I felt I'd pulled it back! Making and Using a Gel Printing Plate Lou Davis 2024-11-01 | This week I'm using Vege-gel to make a simple printing plate and then using it to make an array of beautiful printed papers for collage using simple tools, leaves and found objects. I find this vegetarian gelatin substitute makes a soft plate that you have to be careful with, but it does produce detailed prints, it sets in minutes, can be easily melted and reformed if it breaks and lasts for a few days without needing refrigeration.I worked out how much vege-gel I could use (and I'm using Dr Oetker here) by trial and error and can't provide a recipe for you to use if you're using a different kind of gelatin or gelatin substitute but I suggest getting a few packets to try, follow the manufacturer's instructions but vary them to give yourself a thicker consistency. Watercolour and Gold Leaf Geometric Abstract Painting | Ogee Lou Davis 2024-10-25 | This week's video on YouTube is an abstract geometric painting using the s-curve or ogee as a focal point. Painted in Winsor and Newton Indigo watercolour with a tiny bit of Payne's Grey and some gold leaf to really make the s-curve stand out!18th century artist William Hogarth wrote 'The Analysis of Beauty', praising the serpentine shape for its liveliness and variety. In it, he theorised that there was a perfectly pleasing s-curving shape, not too wiggly nor too straight that he names the 'line of beauty'. Robert Macfarlane references this work in the book I've been reading lately - the old ways, where he talks about finding this ogee shape in paths, and in the ridges of shells etc.The s-curve I've drawn here may be too perfect for Hogarth's sensibilities, not as lively as you could draw freehand maybe, but I like the outcome!INFORMATIONYou'll find lots of extra information about me on my website, including all the supplies I regularly use.
