To what distortion level can you adjust the XR2206 function-generator jsut by visually inspecting the waveshape in relation to optimizing via an FFT-spectrum?
The XR2206 has 2 connections for trimming the shape of the sine-wave.
According to the datasheet you can to levels below 0,7%.
How near can you come to the optimum?
The shown function generator ELV FG7001 from 1989 has an interesting concept with a dual-PLL to generate a quartz-stabilized output frequency from the purely analog XR2206.
The first PLL generates a square-wave which feeds the second PLL that finally controls the XR2206 via the FM/Sweep-input.
Some functions of the XR2206 are switched via analog multiplexers(sine/triangle amplitude equalisation) and MOSFETs (capacitor selection for different frequency ranges).
You can download the schematics and description (in German) in a two part PDF for 0,49€ each:

![Every Maker Should have...[Pt.39]...a Solder-Iron Thermometer
A surprisingly accurate, cheap and user-friendly Chinese solder-iron thermometer. Also resold by HAKKO :-)

Very useful if you have a solder-station/solder-iron of unknown quality to check the true temperature at the solder-tip.
For the FG-100 there are also temperature-probes for solder-pots and for hot-air stations available.
Furthermore a teardown of the FG-100 & comparison with the ELV LTT1 and a normal thermocouple thermometer.
