I was asked by a client to create some kind of energetic glass sphere, Since I didn't have that much time to do anything heavy on render time but needed a bit more control than particular to have the particle bounce inside a 3d sphere. So I decided to use cinema4d and X-particles 2.5 to create simulations allowing for multiple variations (using no real geometry, only x-particle material and hair material for the trails). Then imported in after effects and comped with a rotating glass sphere loop (rendered separately in C4D using GSG lightkit studio for nice neutral reflection) using turbulent displace and buldge to enhance the glass effect, color correction and glows. This workflow was perfect for quick render time and plenty of freedom to play around with dynamic simulation. Each piece can be looped seamlessly and also has an in and out animation. The one that ended up being selected is not shown in here but here are a couple of simulations that were rejected or failed to work properly
