Retro365 | Xonix - Freeware, 1984 - IBM PC (4K) @Retro365 | Uploaded September 2023 | Updated October 2024, 1 hour ago.
A short presentation of Ilan Raab and Dani Katz's, Xonix, released as shareware for the IBM PC in 1984.
Similar in concept to Taito's 1982 arcade video game Qix. The objective is to fence off sections of a playfield while avoiding the bouncing balls.
Xonix was popular at the Dorodnicyn Computing Centre, where Dmitry Pavlovsky, one of the original developers of Tetris, was a computer engineer. Pavlovsky and Vadim Gerasimov wrote their own version of Xonix called Antix. It was first developed for the Soviet Electronika 60 and then ported to IBM PC by Pavlovsky and Gerasimov.
