Thinking about upgrading your doorbell camera? Today, I’m breaking down why I made the switch from Ring to the Xiaomi Smart Doorbell 3. With so many great features packed in, this doorbell has genuinely impressed me.
The Xiaomi Smart Doorbell 3 offers clear 2K video resolution, an ultra-wide 180° field of view, and powerful 3M adhesive for a secure, simple installation. Plus, Xiaomi includes a 79-decibel wireless chime, and it’s free! With Ring, you’d have to buy that separately. The doorbell is easy to recharge with USB-C and holds up to 4.8 months on a single charge—super convenient.
One of the biggest reasons I switched, though, is price. Ring’s subscription fees can add up quickly, while Xiaomi offers 3 days of free cloud storage, along with cheaper storage plans if you want to keep footage longer. If you do need long-term storage, Ring has the advantage of 180-day event history, which could be useful, but for most day-to-day use, Xiaomi’s 3-day free storage is plenty.
Now, if you’re interested in an upgrade, I’d actually recommend going for the Xiaomi Smart Doorbell 3S if you can! I didn’t have access to it at the time I bought mine, but it has a few extra perks that make it worth checking out. Either way, the Smart Doorbell 3 and 3S both bring great value for smart home security, and I’m glad I made the switch.
Update: After a few months of use, my original unit started draining its battery much faster than expected. I eventually upgraded to the Xiaomi Smart Doorbell 3S, and it’s been a huge improvement... the battery lasts much longer, and overall performance has been excellent. Highly recommended!
