The ice has finally come onto Chequamegon Bay and is now too thick for me to easily break through. But I still managed to refresh myself with the pure waters of my homeland!
This is one of my last swims in these frozen waters before returning to the mountains of North Carolina where I will continue to swim in the cold waters for the weeks ahead.

A special thanks to the Indigenous Sustainability Studies degree program, Niizhoo-gwayakochigewin program, Sustainability Office, Center for Sustainability Studies, DEI Office, Campus Activities Board, the Students for the Environment club, the People of the Environment program, and the Council of Indian Students for sponsoring the evening.
We share gratitude for spiritual advisor, Ziibiins Alexandra Johnson, Erika Bailey-Johnson from the BSU Sustainability Office and everyone who cooked, cleaned, spread the word, tabled, and helped in any way they could!

I am on Stolen Indigenous Land – Land Acknowledgement by Robin Greenfield: robingreenfield.org/iamonstolenindigenouslandMy 111 Possessions for Living Simply and Sustainably | MinimalismRobin Greenfield2023-09-21 | I've lived with just 111 possessions, all of which fit into a backpacking backpack. I've also lived with just 44 possessions which fit into a daypack. And I've biked across the United States three times with all of my gear on my bicycle. Right now I own about 600 possessions which comfortably fit into a shelter that I temporarily call home. I've been simplifying and downsizing my life for over a decade and lived in multiple tiny houses and structures. In this video I share what I would own if I designed my possessions to fit into just a backpack and onto my bicycle with a bicycle rack and bicycle bags. The purpose of these ~111 possessions is to meet my basic needs to live simply and sustainably, deeply connected to Earth and our communities.

Moringa is one of the most nutritionally dense foods on the planet and if everyone in Florida grew and truly utilized this one plant it could change our food system! Moringa can be eaten fresh daily soups, salads, smoothies and direct niblings from the tree. It can also be dried into your very own mult-vitamin that you can easily travel with.
Moringa is a powerful plant that has been a wonderful friend in my life.
Want to grow a Moringa tree? We provide the seeds for you to grow them as part of our Food Forest Starter Bundle or you can request just the seeds. Learn more and request here: robingreenfield.org/foodforest

He would know what I needed to know to be successful... Josh’s passion and dedication for food-producing plants in Florida was instrumental in my success in completely breaking free from the global, industrial food system. I was elated to visit him at his new place, Cody Cove Farm and Nursery in Central Florida in 2023. Josh gave me a tour of his farm and nursery and shared his incredible and exciting vision. I was so impressed by what he has accomplished in just over two years. Josh is an instrumental figure in the Grow Your Own Food Movement of Florida.
You can order plants from Josh, and the plants are about as affordably priced as I have found anywhere. You can also visit on his open days and soak in the knowledge and inspiration to grow your own food and break free from the grocery store.

She soaked in the knowledge I shared and took it home with her. 4 years later, I visited her at her home and I was so impressed by what I saw. She followed my simple suggestions and turned her yard into an abundant food producing garden. She is eating from the garden nearly every day and has plenty to share with neighbors. I was so inspired by Michelle’s example and I’m even more hopeful for the journey that many of us are on to break free from the grocery store and grow our own food and community!
Want to turn your yard into a garden? We’ve created an educational series to help you on this journey. We’ve also developed the Food Forest Starter Bundle, a grouping of 30 of the easiest and most abundant foods to grow in Florida.
This grouping of plants is ideal for laying the foundation for a food forest or creating The Survival Garden. You can request a bundle from us and receive the plants you need to grow your own food and break free from the grocery store!

Yet, chopping down trees, guzzling fossil fuels, consuming vast quantities of water and then bleaching the paper we create from trees is normal, acceptable and even sophisticated. All the while using plants as toilet paper as well, but separated from reality by an industry… Disconnected from the source.
So sure, I'm crazy. And I will always choose to be the "crazy" one in this disconnected society.
Brut visited me on my compost toilet in Gainesville, Florida to share this message.
Love, Robin

I visited three of my friends in Florida to show the Toilet Paper Plant growing in different settings and help you get to know the plant. First I stopped at Michelle’s in Wintergarden, who started her plant from a cutting I gave her about four years ago. That one cutting has turned into a substantial plant. Next we visited Lisa’s, where I planted my original plant in 2018. After three years of neglect the plant is still alive and well! Lastly, I visited Chris in Miami who showed me her love for Boldo. This was the largest Toilet Paper Plant I’ve ever seen and it started with just one cutting!

As I paddled in the last mile, I realized what I seek so deeply, so passionately, sometimes so desperately is aliveness. I want to feel alive! I want to be connected to life! I want to be connected to what is alive in me and everything around me!
And through being vigorously alive and connected, I want to wake society up from our current path of destruction.
The way we live today is destroying Earth as we know it…. Taking the lives of millions of our plant and animal relatives… Taking the life right out of the lungs and veins of our Mother Earth…
I come out here to reconnect. To reconnect with Earth. To reconnect with myself. To connect so deeply that I can bring this connection back to humanity and show that another way is possible.
I felt the life out here. The sun beat down upon me. The tides exhausted me at times. The five days straight of strong wind challenged me to find peace amongst the aliveness of the ocean. The biting insects drove me into my little tented refuge, and they got me in there too. And the three days of unexpected diarrhea and the difficulty to stay hydrated…
I was a guest in these lands and I accepted each of these challenges as a gift. No doubt these gifts reconnected me with Earth and with myself.
Now I bring this connection back to you.
To reconnect with what is truly alive in you… To reconnect with our plant and animal relatives… To reconnect with our community, our global humanity…
To remember that we are all a part of all life on Earth. Not separate. Not better. Just part of it all.
Love, Robin

Nature was my garden, my pantry and my pharmacy. Now I'm here to share the story with you and help YOU reconnect with Earth and gain food freedom!
The 9 days of preparation began August 29th, 2022. The month of eating 100% foraged food was September 9th - October 9th (late summer and early fall).
It’s the dream of millions. To “live off the land” and never have to take a trip to the grocery store. And through the pandemic more and more Americans have experienced the instability of our food system and desire to break free. But is it possible to break free? I am here to show that it is.

Over the last month I have foraged nearly 100 different foods from the land! One of my current staples is autumn berries (also called autumn olive). We CAN forage in harmony with the land, don’t let anyone convince you otherwise.

Find a spring near you: findaspring.com
Hello Dear Friends! I see a lot of comments with either concern for me or assuming that I lack knowledge on harvesting wild water. So to shed some light for you… For some of you, this may be your first time hearing the term “wild water” I first heard it from Natalie Bogwalker, the founder of Wild Abundance in North Carolina. I was very drawn to it. However, I have been drinking wild water since I was born 36 years ago. I grew up with an incredible artesian well on the shores of Lake Superior, where thousands of us harvest our pure water as it gushes out from deep in the earth ready to drink. I know our society has been disconnected from our sources of life including our food and water, so it is understandable that so many would assume my practice is dangerous. Very few of us really even know where our water comes from or the processes it takes to clean it before it comes out of our tap or after it goes down our drain. So I will share some... These wild waters I am drinking from in this video are all from springs. Springs are sources of water that have bubbled up through the earth, after having been fully purified by Earth as has been done for millions of years. There are no viruses, parasites (including giardia), bacteria, liver flukes or anything of that sort in a quality spring or well. Some springs can be harmed by humanities ways and so some diligence is needed, which diligence I have. I am drinking from quality springs and wells at the source or within sight of the source where I can be certain the water is still pure. The clip of me drinking straight from the creek, is just 15 feet from the source, still pure and safe. I know how to source quality water and am connected to Earth and not careless. I come from Lake Superior, where pure water flows through my veins. When water needs to be purified, I purify it. When it is already pure, I’m going to drink it straight from Earth. I have purified my water from hundreds of bodies of water around what we call the United States and around the world from clear cold rivers to mucky swamps to ponds and more... I carry a portable filter with me and at home I have a more substantial filter called a Berkey filter. Contrary to many people’s belief, there is still a lot of pure water in the world and there is still clean rainwater to be drunk as well. I could share a lot more but I think I’ve stated enough clearly for those who would like to understand my actions. Love, Robin PS. As far as the sign at this spring. That sign was there purely for liability in a State Park. It is indeed safe, pure spring water.

That means no grocery stores, no restaurants and not even a garden! Every. Single. Bite.
It’s the dream of millions. To “live off the land” and never have to take a trip to the grocery store. And through the pandemic more and more Americans have experienced the instability of our food system and desire to break free. But is it possible to break free? I am here to show that it is.
