6-1 Gravity Well is your friend. At least mine. It deals damage to both Mavericks and stops them. I have a lot of trouble dodging Hornet on the top half of the screen. So I do a little prayer that Heatnix is not gonna flood the bottom half of the screen with lava. Heatnix's final attack deals a lot of damage so try to dodge it as best you can. When a Gravity Well is active, the current gravity capsule must come back to you before you can fire another one. So try to position yourself on top of the active well so you can fire another one right away when it's done.
6-2 Charged Spiral Wing stop Dinorex dead in his tracks But the weapon is hard to use properly. I can't multitask this weapon and the Magma Blade (Wolfang's weakness) at the same time. So I go for Dinorex first because his weakness resets his pattern. I try to charge and fire the Spiral Wing in advance so that Dinorex doesn't have time to do much. Of course Wolfang spazzes out all around the room like the annoying bastard he is.
6-3 This the real showstopper. The meat of this stage. I've never fought Colonel with a special weapon so I go in buster-only. Needless to say you've got to stop Colonel first otherwise you'll have vertical lightning to dodge while you try to fight General.. Because it's a different room, dodging Colonel's lightning attack can be tricky. Use the hover to position yourself where no lightning will hit you, then turn it off to fall between the lightning. Try to avoid standing under General's flying fists. Because the fists will prevent you from jumping out of the way of Colonel's attacks. When you see General flying your way, stop what you were doing and dash out of the way to relocate your fight against Colonel. General by himself is easy. Make sure you fire your charged shots from the very top of the screen when he is in his flying fists attack pattern. This one is intense.

![X Challenge Vol.2 Stage 9 [Hard] [NO COMMENTARY] - Mega Man X Legacy Collection 2
Version with no commentary
Commentated Version: https://youtu.be/Kp_sdxj2i0k
This video shows my first attempt at stage 9-4 and then a successful run of stage 9-4.
9-1 Bring the Shotgun Ice.
Fire in the perfect rhythm to deal quick damage to Mandrill. Hovering is the key to this. Dont stay on the walls.
When Turtloid does the Owari da! attack, get to the wall and hover while facing it. Fire Shotgun Ice shots so their spread takes out Turtloids projectiles.
When Turtloid does his final attack, again, hover next to the wall facing away from it, fire charged shots to hit the falling Meteor Rain, then slide down the wall using the saber to hit any remaining Meteor Rain shots coming your way.
9-2 Buster these guys. You need to keep your Chameleon Sting and Meteor Rain ammo for 9-3.
Focus on Metal Shark Player with mid-level charged shots while watching out for Eagle. As usual stay on the ground and react to Sharks attacks with tall dash jumps out of his way. The only thing that can mess this up is if spams Metal Anchors too much. Or if Eagle is in your way of dodging Sharks summon attacks.
9-3 An RNG nightmare. Equip the Meteor Rain, but charge the buster for the first attack.
Hit Dynamo with Meteor Rain shots. 2 Meteor Rain shots if you can go on the wall behind him. 1 shot to his face if you cant go to the wall. If you fire your shots in his face, it will hit him twice. Hitting Dynamo a second time after stunning him will automatically make him jump to the other side of the room.
During your quest to kill Dynamo, try to do some maintenance on the orbs Gate throws at you whenever you can to deal some damage to Gate and make the fight manageable.
Red orbs are a priority. You have to take them out otherwise they will eat your inputs and most likely get you killed.
The orbs take 5 shots. 1 fully charged shot + 1 mid-charged shot.
When Dynamo is at half health and you see him go to the center of the screen, if you are safe from harm, switch to Chameleon Sting and charge it. Use the pause menu if necessary to avoid wasting ammo when you start charging the weapon.
Trigger your invincibility when Dynamo starts his attack from the center of the screen, then spam sets of 2 shots on him to deal heavy damage. Destroy Gates orbs as they get to you.
Your invincibility should wear off as Dynamo jumps away from the center of the room. So youll be able to repeat the same pattern 3 other times.
When only Gate is left, lure him around the room. Make sure that Dynamos ghost jumps to the proper corner for his attack. He always jumps on the side of the screen you are not in.
Dynamos ghost has no hit box so dont worry about running into him
Gate is so RNG heavy. No matter how much you practice, Gate can completely screw things up.
9-4 All your special weapons energy, life energy and extra-lives are restored for this secret battle. Beating them or losing all your lives will take you to the credits. You cant practice this fight.
Use the invincibility to deal some damage and wait for Zero to dash to the lower right corner. When he does, climb to the top of the wall.
Keep jumping from the wall. Jump away and hover to dodge the rising energy shots. Your cue to drop further down to lure the first energy ring is when the saber wave is exiting the screen.
Fire Shotgun Ice shots when Zero fires his first energy ring and between the 2nd and 3rd rising ground shots. If you fire ice too often, their spread will ding off Zeros saber wave.
When out of Shotgun Ice, charge the invincibility and drop down to hit both X and Zero. Drop after Zero used the saber wave. Go back up the wall after Zeros next 2 energy rings started to move away. Repeat. Remember to use the pause menu to avoid wasting ammo.
With Zero dead, stay at the top again and wait for X to bounce off the wall to drop down and fire at him.
Watch out for a charged Ray Arrow attack when X glows purple.
Good luck.
Hard Mode bosses deal more damage (especially collision damage) and they take less damage as well. You have to practice and learn how the bosses work. A lot.
The final secret battle is only accessible when beating Stage 9 on Hard.

The final core is terrifying.
Here are my strats:
When it liquefies, immediately go for the switches on the walls to solidify it. (duh!)
When you see openings between Nightmares attacks, keep taunting or attacking with the grenade launcher to build up your DT gauge. Keep moving though because it will keep firing small lasers at you.
Stay away from the cores when they open. Those white laser beams will hurt you.
When a core is exposed, activate your Ifrit DT and use Inferno or Meteor to deal a lot of damage before the core hides again.
When Nightmares health is close to 25%, let yourself be caught by his goo attack and go fight an easier version of Nelo Angelo. Doing so when Nightmare is at roughly 25% health will allow you to skip most of the phase where Trish is attacking you at intervals.
When Nightmare is at 0 Health, it will suddenly regain about 25% health and it will expose its final core, attacking almost continuously and draining your DT gauge. This is the most dangerous phase because you dont get a lot of opportunities to practice it and its really easy to get hit at this point. Switch to Alastor. Use well-timed rolls to dodge the white lasers being fired regularly out of the core and fire grenades at him after every roll to refill your DT quickly. Once you have a lot of DT, activate it and use Air Raid while you keep moving to avoid attacks while dealing damage. You will probably run out of DT energy. If you do, keep recharging DT by using the aforementioned dodge+grenade strat.
How do deal with Nightmares various attacks:
- Homing Missiles: Keep jumping (Rolling Blaze) in a good timing as the missiles are about to reach you to reflect them back at it.
- Ice Beam of Doom: Get on top of him ASAP. This is one of the most dangerous attack if it hits you. You can use the Jump Kick attack to quickly land on top of him but sometimes it doesnt work. So make sure you are on top of him. Once you are on top, thats free damage you can deal to Nightmare.
- Blade Thrusts: Learn to feel the timing of its stabs. Use well timed Rolling Blazes to counter one of its thrusts and it will be stunned, leaving you plenty of time to deal some damage to the core.
- Giant Spinning Blade: Same strat as the Blade Stabs. Keep doing Rolling Blazes when you see the spinning blade getting close to you. If you are lucky, the spinning blade will hit your fire aura, stunning Nightmare again for some damage time for you.
- Ceiling Goo + Missiles : Same strat as homing missiles. Stay away from the center of the arena.
- Cage: It also has an attack where it traps you in a cage but I barely had to deal with this one so I dont remember what to do. Its rare.

There are 20 drawings of Shampoo in this animation, with various other extra elements like her eyes and mouth on separate cels in certain poses.
This is an animation of Shampoo being happily surprised to see her airen coming in to see her. Ive been wanting to make such an animation for a while. Here I really took my time with it, trying to make it as smooth as I can and I also spent some time to color the lines. It took me an entire evening just to color the lines but it was worth it in the end. It makes the whole thing less flat.
I spent a lot of time on this one. I hope you like it.
Many thanks to Waka for once again helping me with her voice.
