Restoring A Cozy Mountain Cabin aperfecttouch 2025-06-08 | Sometimes I sew. Sometimes I craft. And sometimes I take on bigger projects like building or restoring houses! This project was a favorite - a cozy mountain cabin. I was so fortunate to enjoy living there for almost four years even though most of that time was moving furniture from one room to another during the process.The roof was replaced, the exterior board siding cleaned and painted. The front deck reinforced and extended on both sides of the house. Steps were added to take you to the creek that ran in front of the house and a bridge was built over the creek. A wonderful contractor did the heavy lifting.Inside all cabinets were kept but they were cleaned, sanded, and restained. Molding was added around the cabinetry and windows and mullions built for the windows. The interior paneling was stained and painted. Wallpaper was removed, the walls prepped and painted. I did all of that myself.Some carpet was replaced. The kitchen and bath countertops replaced. Professionals did those installations. I did the vinyl tile flooring in the mudroom/laundry room and kitchen.Then I decorated in a soft taupe and gold. The buyer of my previous house wanted to purchase it complete with all my furnishings so I moved into this cabin with nothing more than a round pen for my horses. It was quite an adventure!I hope you these before and after photos, even if they were taken with an older camera and are somewhat grainy in their enlargement.
