I was able to salvage the morpho medley files, but lost all my progress on this video, so basically I had to redo the the whole thing (aside from including the pre-made assets from Star and James) Star opted to make some new pieces for the video, and that inspired a longer track. Ultimately I cannot express how excited I am to share this with you and I think it is without a doubt one of the best medleys on my channel. This remix was my idea. A little backstory for those of you unaware. Megalo Strike back, from what I gather, wasn’t directly connected to the Undertale series in any official circumstances. It was a track made by the creator of Undertale, Toby fox, and uses a lot of the same sound samples as other Undertale tracks. I believe it was originally made for a fan-made earthbound album of original tracks. People started to associate the track with the character Chara. I believe this is due to the amazing fan animation depicting the fight between Chara and Asriel that appeared on YouTube. Glitch did the artwork of Chara for this upload. REALLY tremendous stuff. Let’s give him a round of applause. So let me break it down a little bit. Dream Theater is a prog Metal band and has a track called Panic Attack that bears a striking resemblance to Ridley’s theme, specifically in certain bars. (The track as a whole is more distinct) When remixing, I found that not only are the melodies the same, but the fucking chord changes are the same for certain parts as well, like in 2:06. On top of all that, the theme of “fear” in the Panic Attack lyrics work really well thematically with the Metroid universe. At the end of the day, there are a lot of musical ideas I have that are totally out of left field but I indulged myself this time. I REALLY hope you guys like it, even if you’re not fans of Dream Theater, I hope you can appreciate how much it musically fits in like a puzzle piece. The percussion here in particular took a while to put together, and just to add the human element, I dubbed my own guitar playing pretty deep into the background. (I’m a beginner, so I didn’t want it to take the auditory spotlight here) Between you and me, I did the vast majority of this video the night before last night… from like 11 pm to 5 am. Really really REALLY wanted to have this out on Sunday like my schedule plans for, but Final Cut Pro has developed a glitch where it sometimes create green squares on certain frames of the screen, like for no reason. It’s really, really annoying. But that gave me a chance to clean up a few other things. It’s really nice when you’re having a shitty day and you look on YouTube to find out that folks are understanding of your situation.First time doing a vocal track for the channel and I wanted to make a good first impression. Sometimes it can be hard to find tracks that I haven’t done and likewise tracks to combine into a proper medley. I’ve tried to keep my track references more local to the game(s) that the track is based on, and I’ve gotten some very valid criticisms regarding the overuse of random motifs in order to fill empty space in the cover. I was super lucky that both these tracks were present in Robobot and DL2, so it kind of makes sense. For the time being, I consider this track to be one of the best compositions on my channel. Simplistic tracks are essentially a template for improvisation, so it was fun. 5:12 is actually a callback to the old Dark Matter SNES remix I did. You know, I tend to get self referential, and it feels a little bit narcissistic sometimes... But I suppose it makes sense... SINCE MY USER NAME...... *drum roll*.... IS LIGHT *META*S!!!!!(Crickets)Dark Matter is one of the most pervasive characters in the series. Sadly, the final boss of Dreamland 2 is not often on any top 10s, and people don’t refer to the theme(s) often when recounting their favorite memories from the series. (Both themes in KDL2 are very short and somewhat repetitive, though they have groovy bass-lines) More often than not, Dark Matter is overshadowed by characters like Marx, 02, and even Nightmare. The truth is, in his raw form, Dark Matter shows up in some badass boss battles, and I consider the Dreamland 2 incarnation to be one of the most difficult non-arena challenges in the series. (though it may be short-lived) I just found out yesterday that Kirby gets fried by the atmosphere if you wait too long during the fight. What the hell is that.Basically, Dark Matter deserves some love. He’s everywhere. He's a nice guy. Right? So, this upload doubles as a tribute to the character itself and the longevity of its influence on one of the greatest video game series’ ever made. The editing and production for this video, (as well as my last two music compilations to a lesser extent) has been extremely draining. I lost a lot of sleep, and I often felt like I was letting down my friends/audience, which affected some of my real-life shenanigans. It’s just too much!” But come on, really. If I may say so, there’s someone out there who just won’t let you settle for less. You’ll always end up going to the place you said you'd never be. That goes for everyone.My intention was to name this album “Sketched!” because it was themed after the artist characters from the Kirby series. (Where the devil is Claycia?) I was thinking about the sheer freedom for improvisations, (with the video and the audio) and then the spectacular artwork from Star Abraham… Nah, I think the name “Sketched!” now refers to the blank canvas I was given with the opportunity of this album. I was just originally doing P-R-O-G-R-A-M and Heart of Nova on my own, TNH offered to help and provided me with a customized midi for the Star Dream Soul OS section at – 12:10. (Seriously, that “Another Dimension” at the end was ingenious) I worked the new instruments in and created a few different renditions, ended up mixing two of them together for this arrangement. Just about every note in that section was put down by TNH, though I did change/add a couple things. The thing is, when TNH offered to help, I had a rough rendition of my own Super Nova remix, but I ended up reworking it like four times and I just couldn’t get it to sounds how I wanted. If I didn’t get this help, the vid would have been half as long and even less than half as good. We originally ended up with an eight-minute track featuring two renditions of P-R-O-G-R-A-M and one rendition of Heart of Nova, which, I felt was more than adequate for my channel… But I felt pretty stupid having done phase one, now tackling phase three/four, and hadn’t yet remixed phase two. I figured I might as well rework my old Mind in a PROGRAM midi and make it a whole medley!So, I told TNH about this idea…. and he made almost a full Mind in a PROGRAM remix for me. Like, wow.I’m seeing some elements in his rendition that are almost reworked from some of the stuff I added for my old remix. Too bad they’re so much better in his version. (Seriously, you did an awesome job, man) It was like he was saying, “Alright, I see what you were TRYING to do, now lemme show you how its done.” Plus, the supporting strings on his mix are just so majestic. I couldn’t think of a better way to start the video, and I can’t thank him enough.The Heart of Nova remix was a tricky thing. I tried to send TNH an audio file to edit, but you know technology. Technology doesn’t cooperate… TNH ended up remaking some of the clips from the remix from scratch and sent them back to me with his additions. Dude! Major props! As for the rest of the medley, I had a lot of trouble making phase 3, but I think I’m pretty happy with the outcome. Phase 2 was quite easy to make, and it turned out much better than some of the tracks that take me weeks. Which makes no sense.Well, that’s pretty much it. Star Abraham made some incredibly cool artwork for the video, just as before! When I boot up my browser and that stuff pops up on my screen as a new addition, I get so excited. Whenever something new of his gets uploaded, man…. It’s just tons of fun to watch it all get put together, and I’m really humbled to have someone willing to work with me at that level. Didn’t know how I was gonna follow up the sweet visuals from the last video without his help, but he offered to provide some insane work once more!Random note! I think a lot of people wanted the riff from the HON remix here that was featured at the end of my old Mind in a PROGRAM remix. Holy crap the last boss was damn awesome. And no joke.This hit 24k and is thus, my most supported upload. Even the ratings and comments have been crazy supportive. I did NOT expect this, man. I can't thank you all enough, I'm really being spoiled.I had also planned to do some of the other battle themes from Robobot in this video, but I ended up making an extended remix of Mind in a Program instead. It'll take me a while to figure out the rest of them too, they have quite the unusual structure! This remix was one of the most difficult, confusing, fun, and exhilarating adventures I’ve taken up. First of all, I broke it up into four different sections listed below. -Introduction-Main body-16-bit Revamp of “main body”-16-bit + “Kirby’s Adventure” Custom closure (References some tracks relevant in Robobot)I had initially created the “main body” first. This was oddly the only part of the song that was finalized and ultimately created in Garageband using “Kontakt 5” instruments. This was also by far, the most difficult section of the song, because I had implemented a new technique in the creative process. This was a dumb idea. Many times when I design a track, I have the lead melody, bass melody, and a couple supporting melodies all layered on top of one another. In this scenario, I thought I could implement a “one size fits all supporting melody” throughout the entire body. Essentially, instead of creating more than one supporting melody, I’d just make a HUGE FILL THE WHOLE SCREEN WITH NOTES supporting melody, and assign a couple instruments to it, rather than making different supporting melodies for each instrument. This didn’t create an unprofessional sound (I don’t think so…?) it just made it WAY harder for it to sound good at all. I did reach a point when I was satisfied, but it was VERY unrewarding for this particular section of the song. I DO NOT recommend this method, it took way too long, and while it does make managing multiple supporting melodies simpler, it won’t matter in the long run because you’re gonna be editing the one that’s there so damn much that it’ll take even longer.The introduction was also an odd process, I actually made this section twice! Two totally different melodies. I ended up making the piano too loud on the first version, and believe it or not, since I was using the FL Studio demo to make it…. I couldn’t save my project mid-work. So, I started over. Fortunately, the old one was actually much too shitty by comparison as a whole, so I’m glad it happened the way it did! I wanted also, to create some kind of instant dramatic startup that kind of grabs the viewer by the throat with the WAYAWA of Kirby, but… I might’ve scared people off.- I had to cut the other two section descriptions because of a description word limit, but these went smoothly and I had a ton of fun with. Visual effects were very fun for me to make, but the illustration of Susie was done by Halgalaz.- Now let’s talk technical. I have never in my life had a project crash my damn computer as many times as this. The main body especially. There came a point when I couldn’t even WORK on certain parts of the main body because my WHOLE computer would slow down to an absolute crawl. When it normally takes me seven seconds at max to open up my options for an instrument, it would now take 3-10 minutes! And that’s EVERY DAMN TIME I want to edit an instrument! Even after I finally rendered it, nine times out of ten, HALF THE INSTRUMENTS WERE MISSING IN THE RENDERED FILE. So, I had to render ‘em separately and put ‘em together.(Another deleted section talking about how things were fairly easy for the last sections of the song in the creative process)Thank you all for reaching out to me, I’m really glad I had a chance to connect more on a personal level on my “Behind the Scenes Video.” I’ve been surprised that my channel has actually grown a decent bit ever since I put up that video. I thank you for your patience with me too, I wouldn’t be as comfortable working on large projects had it not been for that! I literally started this before the beginning of the first semester at college, and I’m uploading this at 4 A.M. the day I go back for the second semester. Oh man. Anyways, really hope you guys enjoy this. First off, just like what happened with after the Zero Two remix, this upload marks a point where I’m going to try harder to make better content. It may take longer, but I really have to utilize this account to the best of my abilities. That’s what it’s all about. I made the visuals in Imageready and Final Cut Pro for those wondering. I had to throw thirty filters on Sectonia’s head so you guys wouldn’t be able to tell I can’t draw worth crap. Oh man. The names? I’ve screwed the naming before. So there’s like a buncha different names for a buncha songs from the soundtrack. A lot of people call Moonstruck Blossom F-L-O-W-E-R, but it’s not the official name. Now before, I was like whatever, doesn’t matter, I’ll use it as an alternate title since I’m gonna have multiple remixes of it. But I can’t do that, because there’s already another song in the soundtrack named “F-L-O-W-E-R-E-D.” A dude told me that a while ago, but I was an idiot and didn’t change shit because for some reason, it just didn’t register in my brain. So now I’m gonna go back and fix it. Yeah. But wait. What about all these other damn names? Oh man. I always knew the “phase one” theme as “Dirty and Beauty,” but apparently it’s also known as Sullied Grace? Can someone tell me if that is like some region difference thing…. for a track…. in a game….. I don’t know. But I put it up there. Now, the third battle track theme used twice in the game. Oh man. It has two different intros in the soundtrack, and afterwards kicks off at different parts of the song. I attempted to mix the two here. Anything else? I’m extremely excited to show you all the next remix, though it’s going to take longer than I thought, and I just want to say that you guys are the best. Seriously, I’ve been cruising around other fandoms and half the time some of the comments other people receive drive me nuts. The top comments are beyond irrelevant, even disrespectful, and a huge lack of understanding in any argument is prominent. In contrast, the Kirby community has been beyond my expectations. All you guys I have met here… I thought I was thankful before, but I know now that I couldn’t ask for better viewers. It’s really unbelievable that the so many different kinds of people have the opportunity to view my content, but all who I’ve met have been so positive and helpful, even if I screw something up you guys still find a way to explain yourself in a way that I’ll hear in my head, and my arrogance won’t get the best of me.
